Iwami-Ginzan Silver Mine

Wealth and Dark Wonders

An ancient silver mine in northwestern Iwami Province which represents one of the single most lucrative resources of Tsuwamono-era Japan. Discovered sometime in the 11th century, the mine has been historically controlled and managed by the Hayashi Family. Striking an alliance with Dōhan, the family's patriarch, and thus bringing Iwami-Ginzan's resources to her aid, was a major factor in the explosive rise to power enjoyed by Mōri Motonari.   Many have vied for control over such wealth in the centuries since its discovery, but few save the Hayashi have survived. Iwami-Ginzan's tunnels reach deep. Deeper perhaps than any other known cave system. Some local myths state that the caverns there beneath the earth, natural and hewn, extend all the way to Yomi. It's undeniable that things, strange creatures and monsters, sometimes crawl up from those depths and abominate the surface with their presence. In order to deal with such interlopers, members and retainers of the Hayashi family have become experts in occultic arts. Their natures are touched by the darkness beneath, leading the family and mine alike to a fearsome reputation in Iwami.
