Summary
Daughter of Minamoto no Yoshinaka, who was himself half-cousin to the famous Minamoto no Yoshitsune. Yoshinaka later changed his surname to Kiso, but Yoshitaka preferred the Minamoto name and the instant recognition it brought her. Always a somewhat vain sort, this daughter of the clan shied away from military pursuits. It was not until a fateful dark night, a grudge, and a manor in flames that she was drawn into conflict. In order to ward off relentless attempts on her life from that day, Yoshitaka left an offering to a certain "Buddha" at Enryaku-ji. Her request was accepted. A benevolent six-armed man appeared and taught Yoshitaka the secrets of the rat. Rats are powerful creatures, and more sorcerous than they appear. In all of Japan, only a few have had the esoteric privilege of learning Rat Magic. The fact that Yoshitaka survives to this day is proof of this sorcery's power. If she had remained a human, she would have been long dead by this age. Secrets taught to her by the Buddha allowed Yoshitaka to become a Kyūso, in function if not in soul. It's possible that her aggressor is still out there, that black-hearted cat-cursed creature who seeks her life. For the most part, Yoshitaka now seeks novelty and wealth. Part of becoming a rat-yōkai is an attraction to shiny things, after all, and she needs plenty of money to fund her indulgences. Perhaps joining a powerful clan would be a good way forward on that front.Social
