Mysteries of the Date Clan
At first, the Date Clan seemed to be like any other major power in the new struggle for Japan. Its charasmatic leader, Date Masamune, would attend functions with his girlfriend, Katakura Kojūrō and adviser, Masuda Kita. Their forces were purportedly powerful, having conquered much of the northeast, but their daimyō appeared to be a laid-back and reasonable individual. That is, until he was killed at the hands of Musashibō Benkei in the Mōri Tournament.
Rather than leaving a corpse, Date Masamune simply exploded in a burst of energy and vanished. At the same time, Kojūrō and Kita made a hasty retreat from the stands. Since then, the Date Clan has become insular and strange events continue to pop up in their periphery. Matsumoto Ooawagaeri once made an ill-fated journey up to their capital, finding Kojūrō and Kita feverishly writing within their manor. He was then rebuffed and chased away by an entire medley of "Date Masamunes."
Was there ever only one Date Masamune? Did he ever exist? Now, a great many have been encountered, all with their own backstories. These include a lady samurai, cult survivor, princess, hero, and even a giant humanoid war machine.
Just what is happening at the heart of the Date Clan? Is it related to the great rift to the Dreamlands opened off the coast of Mutsu? Ooawagaeri, at least, seems determined to find out.
