Onmyōji

General Type (Support)

Masters of the supernatural and scholars of occult creatures, onmyōji often serve as advisers on matters spiritual to the powerful. In many cases, these priests practice the magical style of onmyōdo, but not always. Rather, what defines an onmyōji is the ability to craft and utilize powerful paper charms, called shikigami. Colloquially, this term also refers to the monsters and yōkai often bound within the same charms.   Onmyōji is a variant of the Adviser general type and retains access to their Komon ability, but not Timely Advice.
Komon (顧問): A general of the onmyōji type may "attach" themselves to the leader of any force. If they choose to do so, they grant their normal bonuses to fielding score from Leadership and Tactics, but are themselves not counted for the purposes of calculating deployment.   Kyūkyū Nyo Ritsuryō (急急如律令): A skilled onmyōji is capable of creating paper talismans, Shikigami, to empower their spells through ritual. In mechanical terms, an onmyōji can spend any amount of time performing a ritual to create a shikigami, after which they infuse the paper charm with a portion of zeon. That zeon is set aside from their reserve, "locked" into the shikigami until they activate it.   While casting a spell or activating a summoning ability, an onmyōji can activate an owned shikigami to empower that spell or ability. If the shikigami does not contain enough zeon to cast the spell or summoning ability as intended, the charm burns away and returns half of its stored zeon to the onmyōji's reserve. If it does contain enough zeon for the intended purpose, all that zeon is spent, but the spell or summoning ability is empowered as if the onmyōji spent as much time in ritual preparation as they did preparing the shikigami.   Special: If an onmyōji uses a shikigami to successfully Bind a supernatural creature, the charm automatically adjusts its presence to serve as a suitable container. The same applies if the onmyōji attempts to seal or prepare a spell in a shikigami.   Note: This general type ability is in addition to and functions alongside the rules for Onmyōdo-style magic as described in Anima: Arcana Exxet.   Example: Tōdaisen Nobuhara spends an hour creating a shikigami and infuses it with 300 points of zeon. That magic is now held separately from his reserve, and he cannot access it without using the shikigami. Later, Nobuhara initiates a Control ritual, using his prepared shikigami against a rampaging nue. The level 5 nue only requires 200 zeon to control, but all 300 zeon in the charm is spent. In exchange, Nobuhara can treat his ritual as having an hour of preparation, the same amount of time he spent creating the shikigami, and gains a +20 bonus to Control instead of the usual -100 penalty for activating without preparation.
