S.P.I.R.A.L.

Sakai Prefectural Innovation, Research, and Laboratory

An organization formed under the Hashinara Clan by contemporary scientist Sarutaba Chino and her assistant Geeru. S.P.I.R.A.L. seeks the advancement of scientific knowledge for the benefit of the people of Japan at large and the Hashinara specifically. Their research has gained significant traction due to unrestricted access to "Void Crystals", solidified structures of compressed Void energy. This energy explodes violently when agitated, a process which, with care and precision, can be converted into usable energy. This process has led to such inventions as the Void Bomb, Void Arrows, and, most importantly, the Void Combustion Engine. Though the Void Combustion project is still in its early stages, the ramifications of an engine capable of reliably producing so much power may have immense meaning for technology everywhere in Japan.
The institute's representative symbol was designed in a collaborate effort by both its key researchers. Sarutaba Chino claims that the converging spiral represents knowledge coming together from disparate sources to achieve a common goal, while Geeru's influence lent the image a somewhat aquatic feel, almost like a starfish.
