Sunmi is a noblewoman married into the Ko clan to the second son of the Ko Clan's leader, having been raised in a successful merchant enterprise with ties to the leading family. Sunmi was raised on the coast, taught the ways of shipping, diving, survival, transport, and other waterfront and transportation abilities. Her family is known for it's generations of avid messengers, ferry drivers, sailors, and so on and as such they have a semi-secret mark of passage to their family name. Sunmi as well has this mark and uses it to work with the head family of the clan as a secretary, messenger, and advisor to her father in law. She is a pragmatic and efficient woman with a young, spry form and face for her age. She is often considered, even for the efficient, calculated culture of Kyori, a workaholic who is constantly on the move with specific intent at all times.
Sunmi is the mother of Leon Mureiy, having him as an only son partially as a way to satisfy and see better of her marriage to Jaejoon.

Sunmi is a slight and agile woman without much weight to her, but fit in a dexterous and quick way. She appears to be in her early thirties or possibly even late twenties despite being 41 in reality, having delicate features that don't seem to age very easily. She wears a well-kept hanbok-type uniform that allows for mobility while keeping an aura of professionalism. Her long black-brown hair is kept in a neat bun most of the time, if not a high and tight ponytail or another kind of traditional, out of the way hairstyle, showing her maroon, slight, cutting, cat-like eyes.

Sunmi grew up on the coast of Ko, as her family are natives to the area and over the years have become a shipping and sailing enterprise along Kyori and exporting to Areya. She wed in an arranged marriage and used it to her advantage to gain a more influential job, using her mark of passage abilities as messenger/secretary to Jaejoon's father, head of the Ko clan.
Sunmi's mother taught her to sail, deep dive, and fish without assistance, and throughout her childhood, though being very career-oriented and law abiding to a family with high expectations, she remained independent in all her intentions and longs to be an influence to the clan's major decisions.

History

Jaejoon and Sunmi were both married very young in an arranged marriage with little to no introduction. They got along, however, their personalities very opposite and relatively complimenting of one another– making up for what the other lacks. Despite them getting along and not butting heads, they never formed a romantic relationship, having been put into the marriage by societal norms of Kyori and not particularly having an interest in the marriage or one another. As the two became closer friends Jaejoon admitted to her his lack of interest in women and the two ended up having a child as a platonic agreement to benefit the both of them; Sunmi hoping that continuing the lineage would please the Ko family and lead them to accept her more as a member and trust her with more power, and Jaejoon hoping to get his family off his back and quell any rumors about him as someone too incapable of reproduction to function as a respectable potential heir.
