Cornelious

Professor Cornelious Ashorn

Known as the Father of Lacertillian excellence, Cornelious brought the full education of The Draconic Library with him. Often being the voice of reason on the council, he often described most of the other councilors as children playing government.

Dignified and respectful

Cornelious always dressed in his professor tweed suit, even repairing it to the best he could after the shipwreck. often seen with a pipe and in later years and time on Lacertillia a cane. He also held his decorum to that of an educated man, never stopping to slag or unbecoming behavior. This led to him being, if not the most loved, most respected council member.

History

Early Life

Born in Draconic Library a little before the slave revolts, Cornelius was a very curious child, having become a graduate in Arcana by his teens. Included in these studies was magic, where he became specialized in rituals, having theorized some ancient ritual prison that spread throughout Undinia, A theory that would not be proved for over four-thousand years. During the slave revolts, Cornelious kept to his books, graduating in history, maths, and several languages before he was twenty.

Professor of Arcana

Though learned in several subjects, it was in Arcana that he followed his studies to the advanced level. Focusing on world magic, Cornelious discovered the necrotic point of power in Frostmourn, as well as identifying that beastial shifters are more connected to animal spirits than others.   As he got older Cornelious spent more time within the library, documenting his findings and teaching the next generation. He was requested to give a lecture in Rivell when the ship he was on was sunk, casting its survivors on Lacertillia.

Lacertillian council

Cornelious became the voice of reason within the council, often forcing his fellow councilors to stop and think of the ramifications of their decisions, as a result, he was often at odds with Grahain. He also developed a close friendship with Neal. Often using his mind to help organize projects, he pushed for an educational program, where masters would teach those wanting to improve. This was argued back and forth, with several wanting to keep a skill gap, while others wanted a more structured education system. In a rare instance of Cornelious and Grahain being completely on the same page, Grahain spent a night with Cornelious learning everything he could about the idea before handing him what is considered the first true Waterbane speech to get the idea through. An idea that led to the consortium of knowledge just a decade later.   He also often dissuaded from the military application of discoveries, such as with the Gdooble oil.

Council dissolution

When the vote to see how Lacertillia was to govern itself in the future, Cornelious started by arguing for a meritocracy, his opinion was changed to a pure democracy by his friend Neal. Once the vote was cast and democracy where everyone has a voice was chosen, many people argued about who should write how this new government would work, Cornelious made, what would be his last political speech, stating that his greatest rival on the council was best equipped. His voice gave the job to Grahain, much to the latter's annoyance.

Final years

The final decades of Cornelious' life were spent educating the next generation, setting up his consortium, and instilling a culture of self-improvement. By seventy Rebel, Lacertillia was the most skilled city in Undinia and satisfied Cornelious made the boat trip home, now too old to fly. He returned to Lacertillia with a single book from his youth and buried it under the Consortium's stage.   He died giving a lecture on the risk and carelessness of interplanar magic, a lecture to a full amphitheater with people standing at the back, with a prophet and several greatwyrms in attendance. The years of hardship in his sixties finally took its toll.

Legacy

The more immediate legacy is the culture of excellence in Lacertillia, where one should always self-improve, and pass on that knowledge. Also, his peaceful nature led to Lacertillia being the only nation to stand at peace for over a thousand years, this being shattered at the Night of the Burning sea.   Statues of Cornelious also stand at Lacertillia, the Draconic Library, and several other educational complexes, becoming the father of modern education. His consortium also led to the fact that Lacertillia is the only truly free education structure in Undinia.   His theories on interplanar issues, sites of power, and a Undinia-wide prison may not have found traction in their day. All three would become vital during the Crisis of the Fey age.
