The Frozen Forest

The dense forest in the east of the Shifter wastes, the frozen forest is home to a large number of clans due to the increased resources within the area. The full size of the frozen forest isn't known as it stretches eastward further than any group has mapped.

climate

suffering sub-zero temperatures most of the year, -3C to 2C during light to -10C to -20C during dark. the forest's water only comes in the form of small streams and snow. this also leads to most shifter fires being indoors.

Fauna & Flora

The flora of the frozen forest is made up of hardy conifers and ferns. Mosses and lichen also thrive in the area, these provide ample vegetation for animals but little in the way of fruit and vegetables.   Most of the animals in the area are seasonal with each season having a different group come into it. Various groups of deer, bears, foxes, and small animals are present from late dawn to early dusk. Muskox, frost goats, and lynxes appear during the rest of the year. Wolves and Merkbats are a constant fixture in the forest.   The Shifter tribes native to the area give birth to an increased amount of predator spirits due to the environment. often seen as more primitive than other tribes, no tribe grows above a dozen families and most of them are young and able due to the constant travel.

Seassions

Split into four seasons, dawn, light, dusk, and dark, these affect everything from plant life to animal migration, and shifter activity. These are defined by sunlight rather than the calendar used further south.   Dawn is the period when the daily sunlight is increasing, starting with the first few seconds long day to when the Merkbat call. During this time most migratory animals travel north, with the dark animals moving to the northern tundra and the light animals moving up from the Dread Forest. This also sees the hibernating bears, foxes, and squirrels waking up. Many animals use this as a mateing season for many animals.   Light is the extended period where the sun never sets, with the exception of a few minutes to seconds at the start. Heralded in the mating calls of the Merkbats and ending in the first dusk. This is also the time most children of the forest are born, including any prey Shifters. This also starts the call of the wild for any predator shifter either already of age or who becomes of age during this period. This is the longest season.   Dusk starts at the first sunset, that only lasts a few seconds, and ends with the winter moon during this period many animals migrate south with those from the northern tundra coming into the forest for warmth and food and those within the forest heading for the dread forest for the same reason, bears, squirrels, and other such animals go into hibernation. Many shifter tribes will travel to a dense part of the forest to set up their winter village, normally settling in groups of two to three tribes.   Dark lasts from the winter moon right through to the first sunrise. For the shifters, this starts with the Winter Moon festival, and most hunker down in defended villages built in the Dusk. The forest itself is mostly quiet, with on average half the animals active as in the other seasons, the noisest being the wolves who have their mating season in this season.
