HERMES
History
The HERMES was built in the 1560s for a variety of reasons. First, Portals were still experimental (and thus could be unreliable) and second, as a way for children and families to travel, since those only 16 and older were able to travel unaccompanied through Portals. Now, the HERMES is used for the latter reason (the former has been fixed) as well as because of the long wait times for some Portals.
Amneities
Besides being a fast way to travel wherever one wants to go, HERMES also offers snacks and meals, both to-go and sit-down. All a witch must do is order through their Tabula, and the food will appear almost instantaneously.
Exterior
The HERMES looks almost identical to a subway one might see in the human world, but with a few noticeable exceptions: unlike human subways, there are no cars; rather, each line is a single-car that operates like a snake.
Interior
Because of the snake-like exterior, the interior furniture "molds;" the seats, windows, and doors will mold to however the HERMES twists and turns. Because of this, riders are virtually unbothered no matter how the HERMES travels.

Author's Notes
Header image from here. Sidebar image from here. (Okay, so if you've seen Miyazaki's My Neighbor Totoro, think of the Catbus: the interior sort of forms to fit, regardless of the Catbus's movement, so you can sit almost anywhere. If you haven't seen Totoro, please do! It's a great movie!) Prompt: Describe a commonly used vehicle in your world and who its used by.
