Tecahteotl

God of Betrayal and Corruption

Tecahteotl is among the first of the gods to come into existence and is Ollitor's brother. While Ollitor was kind-hearted and just, Tecahteotl was cruel and greedy. It was because of his greedy and envy that he tried to usurp his brother's reign over the other gods and take Ollitor's position as god of the sun. However, Tecahteotl's coup failed and, as punishment for his betrayal, Ollitor cursed Tecahteotl. Never again could he bear to feel the light of the sun again lest it sear his flesh and, if exposed for long enough, possibly even kill him. Forced to skulk in the shadows, Tecahteotl sought to find other sources of power and found it in the blood of the living. It is believed that through this path Tecahteotl became the first vampiric being from which all others were created from.   Tecahteotl is usually depicted in the form of a humanoid male with ashen skin and red eyes. He typically has elongated ears that extend out from his long black hair. He is every bit the twisted and malicious being that he was when he first tried to slay his own brother. Tecahteotl carries that bitterness to this day. He was among the most devastated when Ollitor died, but it wasn't out of grief. Tecahteotl feels that he was robbed of both the opportunity for revenge against his brother as well as the right to take Ollitor's position, which Tecahteotl still believes is his destiny. Tecahteotl is extremely intelligent and his schemes and machinations are only surpassed by Dremera. As one of the oldest deities, he is among the most powerful of the gods and many fear him. His greatest enemies are Benatur, Sihilka, Teyocah, and Xalla. Of all the deities, only Atu could be considered an ally and even that is tenuous and subject to change at any time.   Tecahteotl's following includes traitors and those who lust for power. Many of his followers seek power through corrupting and scheming their way into positions of political power. Others prefer to take a more direct route by either pursuing magical strength through the study of blood magic while his more martial followers might seek to perform blood rituals to steal the might of their foes for themselves. Many vampires throughout the world revere Tecahteotl and some even hold positions of power within his clergy. The greatest concentration of his followers are located in the nation of Huehla where he is openly worshipped and his church has great political and military influence.   Places dedicated to the worship of Tecahteotl are typically hidden temples or shrines since worship of Tecahteotl is often frowned upon. However, in places where he is openly worshipped or in places secluded enough to not be persecuted, his followers construct great terraced pyramids in his honor. These structures often have elaborate architecture full of traps or other hazards to deter intruders. In the safety of such imposing structures, his followers perform various blood rites and train warriors skilled in capturing victims to be sacrificed.
