Dr. Grillar Chugg

Grillar Chugg is a civilian scientist on the USS Nightingale who specializes in Subspace Warp Theory.

Psychological Profile

Chugg has an uncanny ability to be right even when she shouldn't be. Her mind isn't just brilliant but it is practical intelligence despite her focus on theoretical physics. She doesn't create solutions that are unusable in actual situations but instead pushes further to develop theories that are both testable and applicable to modern life and technology. Even when she is wrong, it is rarely because she had a "bad idea" but instead because she lacked sufficient information to make the right choice and when that information is available she quickly corrects her conclusions. While a tremendous asset in a laboratory setting she can be somewhat xenophobic towards certain races, especially Klingons and Romulans. While there have been no reports noted since her reappearance during her time at the Vulcan Science Academy she had to be reprimanded for comments she had made about other species.   ADDENDUM: While the story of her being involved with the Q are unsubstantiated it is noted that twice she disappeared from a starship or starbase without any record of her leaving and has reappeared again without any trace of her passage. These could be indicators that her Q story isn't fabricated and from our evaluations she truly believes her story about the Q.

Biographical Overview

Chugg was born on the Bolian homeworld to two locally stationed Starfleet officers. Her mother was Admiral Chugg and there were high expectations that she would follow in their footsteps. Chugg  showed little interest in Starfleet however and seemed more preoccupied with pure research and development. Why travel the stars when she had a nice safe and stable lab right next door? When she graduated she didn't apply for Starfleet Academy but instead went to the Bolarus Institute of Science for her undergraduate degree. As a side project with another student and her professor she began exploring some advanced subspace folding theories. This got her enough attention in academic circles that she was selected to pursue a Theoretical Physics degree at the Vulcan Science Academy. While ultimately she graduated in the middle of her cohort, given the academic standing of the Vulcan Academy the whole galaxy seemed  open to her to focus on her work.    Shortly after graduating, Chugg went missing in 2374 and had no contact with the Federation until 2376 when she appeared in the middle of San Francisco. She claims that she had been in a relationship with a Q and had spent most of that time traveling through space and time. Although the story seems unusual she immediately published a new paper around advanced subspace folding that seems likely to win her Cochrane Prize once it has been peer reviewed.
