The Hazbuzi were a spacefaring reptilian race native to the
Typhon Expanse.
History
The Hazbuzi did not develop warp capable flight on their own, instead when
Xanid Suzerainty representatives came to the Hazbuzi homeworld the Hazbuzi ambushed the Xanids and reverse engineered their technology. There was an initial wave of Hazbuzi colonists as they spread out and took over every moderately habitable planet in their reach however shortly after this expansion the Xanids returned backed by their military and the Hazbuzi were quickly conquered.
The Hazbuzi proved to be a very difficult species to keep enslaved and the Xanids expended considerable amounts of resources in the area to maintain their authority. When the Xanid empire began to decline the Hazbuzi worlds were quick to declare their independence and the Xanids had lost any interest in re-asserting control over them.
Biology
Hazbuzi are short and bulbous standing about half the height of a typical human with a single ball-shaped torso, no neck, and thin spindly legs and arms. Given their wide mouths and reptilian ancestry they are often described as being frog-like. While the Hazbuzi are not very physically strong they have a natural resiliency that allows them to survive in sub-optimal conditions and making spaceflight particularly easy for them.
Their skin naturally creates a protective mucous that makes them resilient against energy weapons and they prefer warm, wet environments as they are cold-blooded and are particularly sensitive to extreme colds.
Society & Culture
Hazbuzi culture developed towards anarchistic democracy given the Hazbuzi generally have strong anti-authority feelings. They are naturally quarralsome and resist taking orders and thus it has been difficult for them to maintain anything close to a unified government. Instead they operate through extensive familial clans where violence and threats are usually the only thing keeping them together and clans frequently shift or merge or break apart.
Hazbuzi society values wealth and power and thus their members tend towards either merchantile trade or piracy.
