Baker Acquidaer (ack-wih-dare)
The highest rank of a breadbasket participant in the annual bake-off.
Every year after harvest, the small villages in the Breadbasket gather for their take on the Bread Festival. Bakers from across the basin come to participate in the annual bake off. Many fun traditions are to be had, however the serious task of baking a single loaf of bread is the most sought after event.
At least a hundred bakers gather to compete. To outsiders this seems melodramatic, but to the bakers it is a calling higher than a king. In a group of eight they compete against each other, shrinking the group to seven then six and so on. Once it reaches one, the group combines with another. This repeats until only one remains. This process takes a whole day. At the end the winner is given a badge. The badge is dated with the year and a large "1" to signify their victory. This badge is normally sown into the baking jacket of the winner and carried with them to death. They are also guaranteed a job if they don't already have one.
