Medder Forest
Between Dalth'it and Ridgegate rises the steep Medder Forest. It inhabits the wild foothills of the Crowned Peaks. In legends past many ogres and orcs and dastardly creatures resided here, haunting the deep shadows so that none may pass. Indeed, Going from Dalth'it to Ridgegate required going around the Crowned Peaks. It wasn't until Sylvain Gilaxsten rose to power and by unknown magic ceased the evil creatures did trade shuffle through the now mostly peaceful forest. Bandits still reside and have been a particular issue for the Dalth'it guards that patrol. Mostly, however, the trade flows without issue.
Only after Manaron, Sylvain's grandson, became sick did the forest once again grow deep shadows and have an evil and offensive scent. Indeed, the once multi-shaded greens leaves and bushes turned dark and foreboding. The darkness drove out the sane, good folk, nursing the evil creatures that thrived in its dark hollows. Orcs returned, and their ogres as well. Some hobgoblins are said to now live there. A green dragon supposedly created a deep poison pool in the center.
Needless to say, the land is no longer safe for travel. The trade caravans unfortunate enough to be caught in the rising evil had only rags and dilapidated wagons to tell their grim tales. Immediately, adventurers sought out to rid off the evil and reclaim the lost goods, to no avail. After this knowledge passed to merchants most diverted their travel north and around, as in the days of old. Some looking to cut corners or outpace their competition foolishly entered the forest, and, of course, never came out.
All that could be done was erect stone and palisade walls around the common entry points. This was the first thing Tyr Solchum did after appointed Lord-Duke by Manaron. An attempt was made to make secure roads in the known places and in the found gaps, but no manner of workers or guards are willing to risk this. As such, Dalth'it's prosperity is being strangled.
