Wastehills
Geography
The rolling hills and red clifflands give way to deep canyons and fissures in the red dirt and sand.
Ecosystem
The arid air, sometimes called the dragon's breath, sweeps down south from the hot north. There is little shelter from these. As such, little vegetation besides cacti exist. The lack of flora also means that fauna is not likely to visit as well. Indeed, the fauna is sparse in size and count. What little water is found here is in deep ravines where the sun never shines, but several monsters do enjoy this as well. The blue dragons find considerable joy in causing vast thunderstorms, whipping dust and sand up in a frenzy.
Ecosystem Cycles
There are no season changes in this environment.
Localized Phenomena
Various local thunderstorms do exist, though they come and go. Sandstorms are common, especially if the Delfir, the Desert Elves , are migrating roughly toward your location.
Fauna & Flora
Desert rabbits, rats, deer, bulettes, insects and birds are the most common. The animals find and fight over watering holes, though the desert bulette doesn't need such resources on the surface. The small shrubs or cacti retain their own water from the ground through their long and thin roots.
Natural Resources
The most widely sought-after export of the region is copper and iron. These are dug up by dwarves and sold to the delfir who then caravan with other items to the sandmarches, the transitionary places between the Wasterlies and Elysia.
History
The Wastehills have always been considered a lost cause of settlement and have been a desert since the First Era.
Tourism
No one comes to visit the Wastehills, except adventurers and cultists godbent on acquiring some long forgotten temple or artifact in the seemingly endless cliffs and dunes.
