Episode 6 - Saving Scarlett Trees
Where avid environmentalism met stabbing
As the rest of the gang made their way through the mist, Necrid to the opportunity to unwrap the package he had received the previous day. Inside was the mace crafted by Greel Irontusk specially for Necrid, with an inscription etched on the mace's shaft: 'Might of Gruumsh,Light of Los'. Invigorated by this acquisition, Necrid affectionate named the mace 'Maleficus' and set off through the mist unfazed with the protection of Los. He reunites with his (somewhat traumatised) companions as they observed the cultists opening a portal, using some form chant connected to scroll held by the cultist leader. They appeared to be struggling to maintain the magic, so the gang took the opportunity to attack. After a heated battle they slew all of the cultists, but not before the portal was opened wide enough to allow a Bearded Devil to pass into the material world. They made short work of him before he was able to deal much damage, with Yedahlia taking his glaive after he died, hoping her demonic ancestry as a Tiefling would allow her to use its powers (unfortunately to no avail). After some quick brainstorming, the group was able to destroy the portal by throwing in the scroll used to summon it, noting the song-like verse on the page. Deyn appeared after this and gave her heartfelt thanks to the group (Arcim in particular). She then summoned a group of Stags to speed them out of the Scarlett Trees, and bade the group farewell.
As the group left the Scarlett Trees, they happened upon a body by the side of the path, alongside cart tracks they believed to belong to the shipment heading for Rorik's Hideout. They examined the body and found a note referencing the names Menis & Duun (Adventurers) and Grisholm & Sennec (Mercenaries). Continuing on the path and out of the Scarlett Trees the stags dropped the group off, where they found a dead horse along the same tracks. Further still, the group arrived at fork in the road, on way potentially leading to answers about the deceased traveler and horse, the other leading to the cart's destination and eventually God's Peak. The group chose to pursue the cart in hopes of reaching it before it could make it's delivery to Rorik.
They eventually managed to catch up to the cart on a mountain pass, where they were able to sneak up, disable the cart, and slay the drivers. Looking in the crates, they found camping and general survival supplies, as well as high quality weapons and armour, all of which appeared to have been sent by house Cainen all the way from Sojourn based on markings on the boxes. The gang looted a few of the more valuable pieces of gear, then Yedahlia, Arcim and Necrid hid in the back of the cart, while Lyra and Zeke rode in front. Their plan was to infiltrate Rorik's hideout, gathering information and then potentially springing a surprise attack.
