Sundering of the Tetrarchy

When the consort of one of the Tetrarchs of Kangambe becomes too ambitious, the other three Tetrarchs kill them both. Hideous fates soon befall the remaining three.

At the time, Kangambe was a rather small dusk elf kingdom ruled by four lords, called Tetrarchs. One of the Tetrarchs, a woman, takes a human lover as her consort. Indulged by the Tetrarch, the consort becomes outrageously vain and avaricious, eventually coming to see himself as superior to the Tetrarchy. Offended by this, the other three Tetrarchs conspire to kill both the consort and his lover. Legend has it that the betrayed Tetrarch cursed her fellow rulers with her last breath, for they all suffered painful and unusual deaths shortly after.   After this, the Tetrarchy collapsed, and Kangambe ceased to be an important city for many centuries. The tradition of having four rulers would continue in later revitalizations of the city, however.
