The Duchy of Rhynnvalle
The Duchy of Rhynnvalle is the southernmost region of the Commonwealth of Dielynor. Empowered by House Aedenburg, Baron Godfrey and Baron Klotzy assist the Duke in administering their respective regions.
Culture
Rhynnvalle culture is dominated largely by the demographics and geography of the region. Predominantly human, the residents of the Duchy depend on the woods, agriculture, and the sea for survival. Small farming and fishing villages along the banks of the River Rhynn travel to the trading hub of Briarwood to turn their surplus harvest into coin and barter for good from across the Meridian Sea. The forests of the Timbered Coast provide a significant source of lumber both for the region and abroad.
Rhynnvalle is very much region on the frontier of civilization-- to the southeast lies the Goblinwood and the Blacklands of Ba'algard, teeming with deadly monsters. To the east lies the Ratling Bog, home to goblins, feral ratfolk (or Ratlings), and sanctuary for all manners of outlaws and outcasts. Standing between these untamed wildlands and the peoples of Rhynnvalle stands a keep on a hill under the command of Baron Klotzy. A shadow of its former glory under the young baron's father Zachariah Klotzy, the crumbling keep still serves as a symbol of strength to both the surrounding villages and the feral greenskin tribes. Even in decay, it is a reminder of the nearby strength of Castle Rosenthorne and the shimmering Knights of the Rose.
Assets
The Duchy contains a handful of significant assets. The Mystic Archive of Briarwood is one of the largest repositories of arcane knowledge in the Commonwealth, administered by the House Aedenburg's own Arcane Academy. Toward the northwestern reaches of the Duchy lies Castle Rosenthorne, a great stone military keep and impressive library in its own right. The castle is home to the Knights of the Rose, a prestigious knightly order loyal to Duke Bjorndrid Aedenburg. They are renowned as one of the most powerful military units in the Commonwealth.
Demography and Population
Though largely dominated by Humans, the region is home to a variety of races. Minority groups include a healthy population of Halflings as well as Wood Elves of the Briarwoods and their Half-Elf offspring. Within the valley there Dragonborn enclaves from Quetxhotl and Dwarves of High Rim. In the largest towns of the area, one may find a handful of High Elves and Gnomes, and perhaps a Tiefling or two, but Half-Orcs are rather rare except in small villages in close proximity to the Goblinwood.
Territories
The Duchy occupies the southern tip of the Commonwealth proper, ending with the Blacklands of Ba'algard. The territories of the Ratling Bog and the Goblinwood are disputed somewhat, but the Duchy appears to have no interest in raising an army to claim them. Even if the numerous tribes of feral greenskins could be removed, and civilized settlements could be built, it is uncertain if the lands contain the resources necessary to offset the great cost of conquest.
Military
A number of knightly orders serve under the Duke, including the Knights of the Rose. Under Baron Godrey of Briarwood serve the Briarknights, as well as Commander Hearthorne's Briarguard. While greatly diminished, the Keep Garrison under Baron Klotzy remain a formidible force in their own right, depending on who is asked.
Foreign Relations
House Aedenburg, like all of the other major noble houses, have sworn fealty to the High King, Arthas Wulfred Eormund, and the Commonwealth of Dielynor.
