Crossbowmen are generally recruited from the professional classes of society. They are well equipped, and carry powerful weapons capable of defeating even the best made armor. Like bowmen, crossbow regiments are vulnerable to enemy cavalry charges, and are weak when engaged in melee. Crossbows are especially devastating when fighting in hilly terrain, but are much less effective in open deserts, drylands, and plains.
