The Duchy of Flyrbjorn
Flyrbjorn is the northwestern-most duchy of Valeria. Situated in the broad Crasmere River valley within the Antuil Mountains on the north coast of the continent, the duchy is relatively isolated from the interior of Valeria. King Magnas I affected his conquest of the Northern realms from the regional capital of Castell generations ago. Currently, the duchy is ruled by the House of Tonraq who were appointed to the ducal title by King Magnas after the formation of the Kingdom of Valeria. Castell served as capitol of the kingdom until 31CA when power shifted toward the geographic heart of the larger realm. The region is best known for its rich trade in minerals and furs which are shipped from Castell to the north along the Crasmere river to markets abroad, and a strong militarist culture that dates back to the beginning of the current era.
The Duchy of Flyrbjorn covers an area of 39 thousand square miles. Of this, 29% (11 thousand sq. miles) is arable land, and 70% (28 thousand sq. miles) is wilderness. The duchy has a total population of 1.5 million people. The largest city has a population of 69,760 people, the second largest 9,655. There is one other city of note in the duchy, and 14 towns. The remaining population lives in numerous small villages, isolated dwellings, etc.
