Earthquake in The Iron Hills

On the 13th day of Ready'reat 803, a terrible tremor rocked the foundations of the Iron Hills Keep in the hinterlands of The Iron Hills along the border with the Ironfoot Kingdom. The quake collapsed a large section of the defenses. Hundreds of civilians perished under collapsed buildings and untold monetary damages were incurred. A chasm opened through the inner bailey and columns of acrid smoke rose from the abyss choking out the sun.   A proposal by House Hallow Evanescence of the Iron Hills, citing concerns of national defense, was quickly passed through the council which levied a tax on the other noble houses of the Kingdom to repair the damages to the Iron Hills Keep. House Videnruse would provide engineers and architects. Additionally, an expedition of scholars from the Royal Academy of Sciences would travel to the Keep and study the event.   The people of the Northern Realms took to the streets in protest of the decisions made by the council. The duchies of Magdeburg, Vale, Stormwatch, and Vrelect (via the steward of House Carolan) all signed a letter declaring their open disgust for the council's recent decisions:
Stability in the realm was negatively affected for the foreseeable future. The welfare of the lower classes, in the North starving, in the South reduced to refugees and beggars, fell to new lows, and the morale of the Kingdom and faith in its union: from the lowliest serfs to the nobility was shaken by the clear and callous profiteering of the council, and most specifically Lord Ricordea of House Hallow Evanescence.
This is an ongoing situation; no additional action is required of the council at this time. Discoveries:
  • Work crews were able to remove rubble which had blocked roadway and prevented shipments of supplies to the keep.
  • Work crews were able to establish itinerate camps for the many builders, laborers, masons, and other tradesmen necessary for the reconstruction effort.
  • Work Crews stabilized some keep structures of the keep and prevented further collapses
  • Work Crews cleared away rubble from collapsed sections making way for new foundation work
