The Royal Academy Petitions for Representation on the Small Council

As a result of the growing influence of the Royal Academy of Sciences in the affairs of the realm, the Dean of the Academy has gathered the support of many benefactors an petitioned the Crown for a seat on the Small Council. Allowing the academy representation would result in their ability to cast votes in all future resolutions naturally, but would also infuriate all other interests in the Kingdom. Rejecting the petition would likewise injure the Kingdom's reputation with the Academy and likely result in less cooperation in the future.   The Small Council voted unanimously to deny the Academy a position on the council. Scholars, engineers, and learned men throughout the realm were aghast. How could the lords of the council deny the wisdom and input of the most educated among the realm? For what purpose would the Duke of Flyrbjorn, Bjorn Tonraq, seek to prevent the King of Valeria from hearing the arguments of such esteemed masters? The influence and power of academia was irrevocably tarnished by the slight.
