Goblin
The question isn't "Why would you want to travel with a goblin?" The question is, "How uncomfortable are you with your traveling companion setting himself on fire?"
Goblins are short, squat animals who stand between 3 and 4 feet tall and have pointed ears and teeth. They have jet black hair that changes from deep brown to deep grey or silver at times, and skin that ranges from orange to green in color. They have flat cheeks and beady black eyes. Aside from that, goblins are one of the most numerous and diverse species on the planet, almost as numerous as humans.
Goblin mythology and tall stories abound, ranging from ancient Hobgoblin invasions to the legend of a young goblin who once rode a chicken into an orc camp. It is, however, littered with tales of slavery and weakness, as they are usually pushed into the service of other malicious creatures owing to their diminutive stature. Because of their past of groveling, goblins fantasize about obtaining their own power and strength, which leads them to seek adventure.
Goblins are organized into loose clans commanded by a leader known as a Mob Boss. Some goblin civilizations routinely wage war on, if not outright irritate, their neighbors. Peaceful goblins, who are few and few between, prefer to play practical pranks on their neighbors, which can be just as harmful as declaring war.
Some goblins believe in reincarnation, which makes them much more deadly than other goblins since they have no qualms about dying or sacrificing other goblins for the greater (their own) good because they have no fear of death.
Goblins mainly live alone or occasionally join gangs with other races in the cities where they are welcomed, albeit reluctantly.

Naming Traditions
Goblin names are not given at birth since goblins have a limited life expectancy and feel that giving a name is a waste of time. Instead, they assign them numbers until they reach the age of adulthood, assuming the goblin is lucky or resourceful enough (usually after 4 years). The Mob Boss bestows these names, and titled goblins command considerable respect among their fellows. A goblin may be granted a title defining the deed if he accomplishes something really courageous (or dumb) and gets reputation.
