Lukquito

The lukquito are a symbiotic race consisting of a humanoid host, the Luqui and a tentacled symbiotic being, called the kito resembling a cephalopod that serves as the functioning brain of the host, with tentacles exiting the skull where eyes should be and also emerging from the back of the head before attaching to the brain stem and spinal cord.   In truth, Lukquito have a rather nightmarish appearance to them. Covered in thick golden brown hair on the torso and legs, they appear somewhat emaciated, an effect only enhanced by the fact that the pale blue flesh of the Luqui ends around the elbow, exposing bone and tendon underneath. The featureless face is typically hidden by an organic mask that is fused to the creature's flesh, giving the illusion from afar of a face. Up close, the effect is unsettling as the tentacles protruding from the eyes remain unhidden and the fixed features of the mask do nothing to convey emotion.   Every lukquito has a longstanding bond, symbiont to host. Their connection affects them in a variety of ways. The host experiences a sense of instinct and inspiration, drawing on the memories of their symbiont. This connection grants lukquito minor psionic abilities, as well as protection from psychic attacks. Some symbionts are warriors and others are more contemplative.   The bond to the symbiont can cause some lukquito to display unusual quirks.   Luqui without a kito symbiote are shy and reclusive creatures who live as far from other species as they can manage, usually in caverns where they tend the young symbiotes as they grow to maturity. These communities spread far and wide, as the sparsity of the luqui and kito  populations mean that centralizing in one location would create the danger of the race being all but wiped out by a accident or attack. The locations of these growth centers are kept secret even from others of the lukquito. A host and symbiote combined is eager to explore the world and learn. Between hosts, a symbiote will convey its experiences to other kito , ensuring that the information it has learned will survive. Lukquito meeting in the outside world will, if at all possible, spend 24 hours locked in a telepathic bond to exchange experiences for the same reason. Unpaired luqui never leave their communities voluntarily. Unpaired kito cannot. Thus, only paired lukquito are known to the outside world, and to most of the world, they are only fairy tales. A visit to a civilized area, even a cosmopolitan city, by a lukquito can cause alarm or even panic, as it is akin to a mythical creature appearing in somebody's home. Without the calming telepathic field of the kito  to buy enough time for explanations, lukquito visiting a settlement with their party could go very badly indeed. Those who travel with a lukquito learn quickly that quick introductions are preferable, for even in Valine, where out of the ordinary experiences are relatively common for even an average person, the appearance of a lukquito is noteworthy.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The Kito projects a continuous telepathic field to briefly calm the emotions of those around them, enough to avoid immediate conflict based on the shock and fear their appearance might cause. This will not stop an already hostile being from attacking, but will allow the lukquito or their companions just a moment to engage those around them and stop instinctive aggressive actions.

Lukquito Traits

Dual Mind
Combining the host and symbiont's experiences, gives advantage on all Wisdom saving throws.   Blindsight
Despite having no eyes, you can perceive your surroundings, within 100 ft. Beyond this radius you are blind.   Mental Discipline
A lukquito has truesight to a range of 80 feet.   Mental Discipline
You have resistance to psychic damage.   Mind Link
You can speak telepathically to any creature you can see, provided the creature is within a number of feet of you equal to 10 times your level. You don't need to share a language with the creature for it to understand your telepathic utterances, but the creature must be able to understand at least one language.   When you're using this trait to speak telepathically to a creature, you can use your action to give that creature the ability to speak telepathically with you for 1 hour or until you end this effect as an action. To use this ability, the creature must be able to see you and must be within this trait's range. You can give this ability to only one creature at a time; giving it to creature takes it away from another creature who has it.   Severed from Dreams
Lukquito sleep, but they don't connect to dreams as other creatures do. Instead, their minds draw from the memories of their symbiont while they sleep. As such, you are immune to spells and other magical effects that require you to dream, like Dream, but not to spells and other magical effects that put you to sleep, like Sleep.   Projected Serenity
Over time this field loses its effectiveness on an individual. It is up to the DM to decide how NPCs will react to a lukquito, but anything that would affect attitude to the lukquito can be moved one level towards a calmer or less violent response, at least until some action is taken by the party. The DM can also roll on the table below, assigning a group Wisdom to the community and making a Wisdom check to see how the community at large will react to the arrival of a lukquito.   Community Reaction to Lukquito Arrival
Result Reaction
3 or below Violent
4-8 Fearful
9-12 Cautious
13-16 Curious
17 or above Welcoming

Languages. You can write Common, and two other languages of your choice. Lukquito cannot speak out loud.
