Luqui

Luqui are an unusual humanoid species, barely sentient on their own but complete when serving as a host for a kito and forming the symbiotic being known as a lukquito.   Before taking a host, however, luqui spend their life protecting and caring for kito symbionts without a host. Some luqui never receive a host and serve their entire lives as shy, reclusive caregivers. An unpaired luqui will never leave its community voluntarily.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Luqui are humanoid in shape. They are covered in thick, golden-brown hair on the torso, legs and upper arms. Their pale blue flesh underneath the hair ends on the arms just above the elbow and the lower arms show exposed bone, muscle and tendons underneath. Accordingly, luqui have no sensation below the elbow except in the fingertips which have soft nerve pads upon them, enabling a sense of touch to send signals to their brain and, later, the kito symbiote.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Luqui have narrow mouths suitable only for eating semi-liquid foods. They have slits where a nose would be and large jet black eyes.

Average Intelligence

Luqui without a kito symbiont are simple creatures, lacking in much higher thought, but following their natural instincts to care for the kito and able to follow simple instructions.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

When a kito and a luqui are joined, the symbiont's tentacles exit the head and attach themselves to the brain stem and spinal cord. In the process, the luqui's eyes are removed by the protruding tentacles and the combined being sees via the kito's telepathic field.
