Erivale

The village of Erivale is a small farming community in the middle-lands, on the banks of the Lifeblood River. It is located on the trade-road from Laranna to Wildriver. Surrounding the village are various fields administered by the village's farmers, and several large forested areas, from which local hunters ply their trade.   The town's current mayor is a man by the name of Rodulfus Hume. He lives in a large house at the eastern end of town with his wife Elise.   In the centre of the village square sits the village's temple to the goddess Chauntea; a large stone building which has weathered the centuries. The current head-priest is a human male; Father Mullen, who also has a pair of acolytes working under him. The temple is home to a set of relics dating back to the Demon War, when a wizard named Meilar stood in defence of the village and temple, while the populace were sheltering inside.   The village's watch-house is also located on the town square, consisting of a small office and cell block. There are only a small number of watchmen in this small village, led by a man named Wallace Bowerick.   Further towards the outskirts is The Duchess Inn, owned and operated by a dwarf by the name of Titus Goldenbrew, along with his daughter Thora.

Government

The village has an elected mayor, who reports to the Duke of Laranna. Elections for the post of mayor are held every 10 years. Laws are kept by a small group of watchmen, and administered by a magistrate who is also based out of the city of Laranna.

Defences

Erivale does not have much in the way of town defences. Traditionally, at signs of imminent danger, the populace has blockaded itself inside the Temple to Chauntea; a long-standing stone structure in the centre of the village. The village's town-watch are armed, but are so few in number as to be irrelevant in the face of any organised attack on the village. Being situated relatively close to the region-capital of Laranna, the village relies on the protection of the the large city, rather than fielding their own forces.

Industry & Trade

The main output of the village is in farming, with farmers exporting their produce to the nearby city of Laranna, or sending it downriver to the town of Wildriver. There is a small fishing community on the banks of the river, on the edge of the village, but by and large any fish that are caught in the village are consumed in the village. The same can be said for the small group of hunters who make their way through the forests near to the village in search of game. The owner of The Duchess Inn, a dwarf named Titus Goldenbrew, exports a small amount of his own brand of ale, 'Goldenbrew Glow', to the surrounding towns.

Infrastructure

Several farms surround the village, some of which have built windmills on their property. There is also a water-mill down on the banks of the Lifeblood River. The village itself is mostly paved, enjoying the benefits of being situated on the trade-road from Laranna to Wildriver, which crosses the Lifeblood River via a bridge on the east side of the village before entering the village itself.

History

The village was settled roughly three centuries ago, and has grown to a modest size for a farming community in this part of Vallanna. During the Demon War, the village was besieged by a group of demon worshippers, and the majority of the populace took shelter in the temple, while a small group of local heroes, led by the wizard Meilar led their defence. Large parts of the village were burnt to the ground during this siege, but have since been rebuilt over the intervening decades.

Architecture

Most of the structures in Erivale are constructed from timber cut from the nearby forests, but several stone buildings are found in the village, including the temple to Chauntea.
