The Duchess

The Duchess is a two-storey inn, in the village of Erivale. It is the village's one and only inn, and serves as a popular meeting place for local residents, as well as place for passing travellers to stay.
The inn's lower floor is composed of the main bar, a kitchen, two guest rooms and the living quarters of the inn's owners. The upper floor contains five more guest rooms. To the rear of the inn itself is a small stables, used by guests for their horses, and also by the owners for their cart and ponies. There is also a small brewhouse, which is used to produce The Duchess' own brand of ale - Goldenbrew Glow.
The inn is run by aging dwarf, Titus Goldenbrew, and his daughter Thora. Titus is a popular local figure, and can often be found propping up one end of the bar, spinning a story or two. Thora carries out the majority of the work of running the pub these days; content to let her father rest. One duty that Titus still performs however, is the semi-regular trip to the nearby town of Wildriver, to sell ale that the dwarves produce in the Duchess' brewhouse.

Alterations

Since coming under the ownership of Titus Goldenbrew, the traditional inn was expanded with extra guest rooms on the ground floor. Some have thought this optimistic, as Erivale does not see a great number of visitors, but Titus was not to be discouraged. He also constructed the brewhouse to the rear of the inn's main building, and began to produce his own ale within it.

Architecture

Like many of the structures in Erivale, The Duchess is mostly built of wood, cut from the nearby forest, and features a thatched roof.
Some have commented on the lowness of the Duchess' ceilings, but the current owners, being dwarves, do not find this to be an issue.

History

During the Demon War, the village was put under siege by a rampaging horde of demons and their worshippers. Many buildings were burnt to the ground, and had to be rebuilt following the conflict. The Duchess was lucky to survive serious damage, although repairs did have to be effected.
