The Eye of Moments
One of the most powerful known magical artefacts, The Eye of Moments is a large emerald-coloured gem, which allows the wielder to control the flow of time itself.
The origin of the Eye of Moments is not known, but it is believed to have originated during the Age of Arcane Might, when magic-users of unbelievable power reshaped the face of the world itself to their own whims.
As such a powerful artefact, the Eye would usually be locked away in the vaults of The Grand Arcaneum of Vallanna, but due to its specific time-magic powers, it was often put under the direct supervision of the Arcaneum's Chronomancers.
The Eye of Moments was under the care of Mo'Dai, The Chronomancer, when he was ambushed by The Cult of the Bleeding Eye in the village of Wildmeadow in 1307. During the struggle, the Eye was struck by an errant Witchbolt spell, and began to act unpredictably, encasing the village in a time-dilation field, within which time passed slower the closer to the Eye that a person was. As well as the time-dilation field, ribbons of pure time energy moved throughout the village, causing the deaths of almost all of the village's inhabitants.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
Imbued with pure time-energy, the Eye of Moments has been studied for centuries (both objective and subjective), and a succession of Arcaneum scholars have all failed to divine how it actually works.
