Silverite
A truly lustrous metal of a white-blue coloration that is prized by all races of Valnoagawa, but by the Dwarves most of all. Found in the vicinity of Ley Lines where magical energy overflows, it is used in a variety of crafts and is able to be substituted in the place of several other metals that would be used for other projects. It is prized for its ability to be used by spellcaster (Druids, Sorcerers, & Wizards) as metal armor as it does not impede their access to magic and the powers they draw upon. Furthermore, it is completely immune to the effects of rust and oxidation while retaining its shape and the enchantments it may have instilled for centuries without them waning power. Though only thing that prevents its from being ubiquitous is that Valnoagawa has very few known veins and the knowledge to craft it properly resides with very select groups & individuals.
Properties
Material Characteristics
Shimmery White-blue ore that when smelted takes on a deeper hue of blue and seems to glimmer in both the sunlight and moonlight.
Physical & Chemical Properties
- Cool to the Touch & shimmers in direct light.
- Prevents the interruptive qualities of metal armor if crafted directly or made of an alloy to allow for it so be worn by Spellcasters that are not normally able to use such armors
Compounds
Silverite is able to be used in a number of alloys that require other metals while still allowing the alloy to function normally. Compounds are extremely durable and still function
Geology & Geography
The ore form can be found silver veins that are close to Ley Lines and other areas that contain higher concentration of magical energy. Some sources have been found in the Feywild due to the abundance of magic in the air that is able to effect silver veins.
Origin & Source
Silverite metal comes from the ore of the same name near silver veins.
History & Usage
Everyday use
- Jewelry
- Rune making
- Armor & weapon smithing
- Direct Enchantment
Refinement
The ore form must be smelted and refined to the remove the additional materials within which is usually pure silver, though very rarely it can be found to have Mithral that is purified out.
Byproducts & Sideproducts
Silverite dust can be used as a material component for spells that call for silver dust as a component. If used for such a spell, the spell takes affect as if it was cast using a spell slot of one level higher than was cast at. Additionally, if a Fiend\Undead attempts to dispel magic caused by a spell cast in this manner, they must first succeed on a DC20 Charisma saving throw, failing to do so on a failed save.
Reusability & Recycling
Silverite is easily recycled by smelting down the metal or items it has been used with though this is rarely done as each piece that includes the metal is typically of some importance and value.
Distribution
Trade & Market
Mostly traded by Dwarves due to their close access to the Silverite veins, it is a high valued commodity ore that is used for a variety of purposes and serves as one of the main metals in the repertoire of Dwarven clans. Several clans trade it between themselves while also trading it with other settlements and organizations so that they may use it for their own needs & purposes.
Storage
Silverite is stored in both it's ore and in small bars.
"Silverite. When used by the Dwarves it can accomplish all manner of effects. Need it serve as the base for other alloys, it can do that for most. Want to enchant powerful runes, armors, or weapons, Silverite will make that possible and make it last to boot. Ain't nothing a Dwarf can't do with Silverite to enhance a project." - Vathunaga ForgeWright
