The Valorian Temple

Considered by many (mostly it’s devotees) to be the true seat of power in Valor, the Valorian Temple is the center of the three wings of Castle Albion, with a fine view of the gardens to the South, and the mountains to the North.

Purpose / Function

Originally built as a place of worship and devotion to Valor Ascendant, the patron goddess of Valor, the Temple has become more secular with time, focused on governing the Valorian Knights, engaging with the other branches of the government, and seeing to the country's defense.

Alterations

The temple was enlarged several times relatively early in its history, but the exact extent of the alterations is no longer known. The main entrance and the sanctuary are considered to be part of the original temple, and the rear towers and the bulk of the area between them are likely newer. Between those, everything is less certain.

Architecture

There are four towers, each with a flat roof suitable for gryphon landings and designated by color. The broad central section is open at the sides, but has a roof; gryphons generally wait here if their knights have business inside the temple. The final section of the temple, comprised largely of meeting rooms, council chambers, and the grand banquet hall, is enclosed with a peak roof, but has access to the other sections by open walkways.

The base of the temple has quarters for the staff and higher ranking knights (the lowest ranks live in a training barracks, followed by journeyman quarters, both in the Eastern inland), as well as dining halls, kitchens and other practical spaces, and at the center, the sanctuary spaces still dedicated expressly to Valor Ascendant.
