The Order

The Order is both a religious and bureaucratic system which holds the Vergar Empire together.   The Order has existed since before the unification of the Empire under Emperor Theotus I. However, Theotus I was a member of The Order and helped create the seamless integration of The Order into all aspects of Vergar society.  
The Order has outlawed all magic on the continent, and enforces its decree via holy wars, direct subjugation of individual Eldar , and a secret police network within its ranks known to outsiders as Whisperers.  Advancement and entrance into the Order is usually limited to aristocratic families within the Empire.  
Although the military class is a separate entity within Vergar society, commissioned officers hold dual status as low ranking Order members and members of the military.  Military achievement is one of the few ways to gain entrance into the Order for lower ranking or common Vergar.  All military commissions must be approved by the local Order priest who also holds all family records for the province.
