Jaddregos (/jædˈdreɪɡɒs/ | /yad-dray-gos/)

Overview

Jaddregos is, for the most part, entirely centered around the Elysian Bastion known as Hope's Cradle. The city rests at the bottom of a massive crater near the epicenter of the desert known as the Whispering Wastes, and its denizens lay claim the entire interior of the continent. The people of Jaddregos, overwhelmingly Dragonborn, are raised in tight-knit communal settings. Those raised in the communes are given basic schooling and intensive military training. These children are taught from a young age to view others as more alien, and to 'dehumanize' them. Those that are not Dragonborn are therefore forced to wear a draconic mask to help the young and impressionable children get along with them.

Those in Power

The nation is ruled by a limited council of high-ranking military officials called The Pyro Primum, or The First Fire. This six-strong council of red-scaled Dragonborn is presided over by the Commander in Chief, an ancient Blue Dragon named Zyronith. He uses The First Fire as more of an advisory board, and rules the city proper with an iron fist. Early on after the Empyrean Schism, an ancient Red Dragon named Cyndranis ruled over Hope's Cradle. This dragon died valiently defending its territory from the shadows that swallowed the continent.

Structure

Dragonborn that are born within Jaddregos have no particular scale color, and instead are covered in dull gray scales. Consequently, any that enlist that aren't Dragonborn are also given masks with the same coloration. Once these young recruits to the Prismatic Host reach the age of 15, regardless of race, they will undertake the Gauntlet. The Gauntlet is an hours-long test of both the mind and body. Those that complete the Gauntlet are able to participate in a ritual known as the Chromatic Rite. This Rite bestows upon them a new scale color, one of the lowest ranks of the Host: White.

White-scaled Dragonborn are the lowest rankings members of the Prismatic Host, and hold ranks anywhere from Private to Sergeant. The next highest color scales are Green, and they hold ranks anywhere from Staff Sergeant to Sergeant Major. The third highest scale color is Black, and these individuals hold a litany of Warrant Officer ranks. Then, there are the Blue scales, which hold officer ranks ranging from Second Lieutenant to Colonel. Finally, there are the Red scaled Dragonborn. There are only a handful of these, and all of them hold the rank of General.

Culture

As mentioned before, every child born within Jaddregos must undergo at least 15 years of intensive schooling and martial training. Those that call the interior of the continent home strongly believe that it was the brave men and women that fought the encroaching shadows that kept them from total extinction. Knowing this to be their truth, they readily accept martial law as a way to govern the people of the nation. This martial law enables those in control to alienate those that are not of draconic lineage. Those that wish to visit Hope's Cradle are forced to wear a dragon mask so as to not rile the native population.

As society can't function on its own, soldiers that complete their Gauntlet are given a choice. They may either return to civilian life, or they may continue their military service to the nation. As an army of this size crawls on its belly, many decide to forgo further military experience and take up work as doctors, teachers, and chefs. Despite this, every citizen of Jaddregos has the capability and duty to take up arms should the need arise.
