Culture
House Walmar is fanatical in their worship, and their naming convention reflects that. Children born of Walmar are named after a few select things that are seen as the most Holy. These names and objects include: Ethos, Ydall, the Burn, the Ivory Wall, the Hallowed Writ, Dragons, Veler, House Glore, and Iron and Steel.
They are zealots of Veler and the Iron Creed. Walmar is most similar to House Edricson, but where Edricson follows the Hallowed Writ to the letter, Walmar have taken the practices of Veler and evolved them. One such example of this is the sacrifice of the firstborn child of all commoners within Rhenus to the Burn. This has been so ruthlussly and religious enforced, that the people of Rhenus now see the sacrifice as an honor, to have their firstborn ascend to the Burn early in such a Holy way is a great gift that Walmar gives them. With the growing size of Rhenus, most days end with the lighting of the great sacrificial pyre at the center of the town, piled with swaddled babes unaware of the flames licking at them. Another practice is the monthly Debauchery. All willing citizens of Rhenus gather under many halls and buildings in a town-wide party of sex. Walmar pushes this, preaching that the goal of human life is to populate as much as possible, to fuel the Burn. It is Ethos' weapon to purge the world of evil and they should all be trying to accomplish his goal as soon as possible. Walmar follow the Hallowed Writ like Edricson, but take it a step further, and ignore certain sections that detail things like repression of lust (The repression of lust is associated with sin in the newer versions of the Hallow, in the updated Laws of the Last King-Novus Imperialis-and Walmar views those as man-added mistakes.
Many smaller Houses in Iron have a member that originates from Walmar. This is because House Walmar are big advocates on having lots of children, intent on filling the Burn up as quickly as possible to carry out his Holy will. This creates an abundance of Walmar nobles seeking mates, and many nobles are drawn to Rhenus for the 'practices' that do not occur anywhere else.
The House motto is a quote from the Hallowed Writ said by Veler with Ethos' voice. It is from the Book of Veler, as Veler preaches to the gathered people of the Sacrim tribe at the end of the Yellow Campaign.

History
House Walmar are a noble House that originates from the time of the Failed King. King Lucianus had failed in his conquest of the Highlands and became repressive, the Iron Kingdom relatively stalled in their progression. This led to civil unrest and the expansion of other idealogues. House Walmar was founded by Witness Marchelus, who wrote the Words of the Soul book in the Hallow after speaking with God. Marchelus was unhappy with the Iron Creed, believing that they had begun to be led astray from the true teachings of Ethos and Veler during the Great Settling. He understood why though, which was that they were so focused on survival in this new land. But he thought it was time to pursue the only goal that really mattered: To fuel the Burn.
He proposed progressively radical ideas of mass slaughter, controlled camps focused on producing offspring, and bringing full-scale war to the people of Ember, Highlands, and Soleri instead of trying to conquer them. He preached the benefit of painting the land in blood for Ethos, and that doing that would let them actually win the fight against the Highlanders. They only lost and were pushed back because they were trying to conquer, not just sack. Lucianus was almost swayed, so ashamed of his failure as he was, but in the end did not relent to Marchelus' wishes. The Witness did gain a huge following, and grew in power within Hero's Rest and the Sanctum of Udros. Marchelus' 'cult' grew so much in fact, that the King's Council at the time were forced to take extra measures to stop its spread and to stop their fractured Kingdom from ripping itself apart. An agreement was made between the ruling council and Witness Marchelus, and through his noble blood, Marchelus was given land and a noble House.
Originally House Walmar settled in Virnach, a little ways away from the capital Hero's Rest. There, they remained until the Burning War, where Marchelus' wishes came to fruition in a different manner. As King Theodosius led his troops northward thousands would die and the Burn would be filled. Many knights from Walmar partook in the Burning War, and returned to their town after. In the aftermath of the war, there was a large population boom and Hero's Rest expanded outward. At the same time, the Thundering Flats were settled, pushing southward. There was land south of Deva and East of Midcross that overlooked a series of rills and could house a town. House Walmar migrated south at this point, as they had become cramped in Virnach and their customs of having many children required much more space to grow. They settled in the Rhenus Rills, marshy land bordering Soleri constantly beset by storms, but they were more isolated and allowed to further their own practices. Upon settling in Rhenus, a High Burner was named and the people of Rhenus started the practice of sacrificing firstborns to Ethos in the Burn. The area that Walmar originally inhabited was swallowed by Hero's Rest and became its outer city.
