Sabel

"You're a good friend, and I didn't really have many of those. I'm also gonna need some help figuring out my past, so... you know... if you are feeling another adventure..."

Sabel Excalibur

Intelligent, curious, and socially awkward, Sabel is a young drow wizard of the Tensor Academy, brimming with potential. She was raised in Felwinter by an old adventurer, away from the corrupting elements of Drow society in the Underdark, and away from the Queen of Spiders. As such, Sabel turned out to become a perfectly average citizen, though many shunned her because of her origin. Sabel was unbothered by this, preferring solitude where she could read books and practice magic - something she had quite the affinity for.    It was no surprise that she wanted to enroll in the Tensor Academy. Very quickly, the higher-ups of the Tensor League saw her potential as she breezed through her classes, performing far above her classmates. Though that wasn't the only potential they saw from her...   Sabel has memories of a past life - fragmented thoughts of another person from before her time. A society of Drow. The practice of a type of magic unseen anywhere else. A great escape. And finally, her death. Sabel wants to discover the meaning behind these memories, and so far her instructors all have no explanation. Thus, Sabel must take this into her own hands, to understand her past life, and she alone will decide to embrace the past, or start anew.

Personal history

The beginning of Sabel's life began in the Underdark, though she has no recollection of it. In the Drow settlement of Fyln'thas, the newborn Sabel was suspected of being a reincarnation of a traitorous Drow wizard who took part in a rebellion and was slain. As such, the authorities attempted to seize the infant child. Sabel's mother refused to hand over her child, and thus escaped, perused by the Drow warriors. She was badly wounded in her escape, when she came across a human adventurer in the Underdark. With no other option, Sabel's mother gave the man her dying wish: to take her child someplace safe and raise them as best as they could. The adventurer, a veteran named Sir Jarvis Excalibur on his last expedition, decided to fulfil the Drow woman's wish, and thus he adopted the child as his own, naming her: Sabel.   As a veteran adventurer, the Excalibur household was quite affluent, and Sabel enjoyed an affluent lifestyle as she grew up. Though many nobles despised the idea of a Drow living within Felwinter, they also respected Sir Excalibur, and thus they tolerated what they considered an atrocity. Sir Excalibur knew the hardships that Sabel would endure, and so he taught her everything he knew, including everything he knew about the Drow and how their evil god demands them to enslave and deceive. He assured Sabel that she was different, and that she would prove everyone wrong by showing that Drow are not the monsters everyone sees them as.    Inspired by stories of adventure by her father, Sabel grew to love books. She innately had a curiosity for learning, and discovered she had an affinity for magic, able to cast elementary spells with no prior knowledge. She set her sights on the Tensor League, the organization home to all powerful casters. One day, she would be among them.   Sir Excalibur had children of his own, and they grew up alongside Sabel as her siblings. Unfortunately, the lifespan of humans pales in comparison to that of an elf, and while Sabel stayed young, her father grew old and passed, and then her siblings soon followed after, and finally their children. With each generation, they grew less tolerant of Sabel yet still allowed her to stay within the Excalibur house. The noble family after Sir Jarvis squandered their father's wealth on junk and poor gambles, and as such, their status as nobles fell to the lowest of echelons. When Sabel was set to enroll in the Tensor Academy, Sir Jarvis' grandchildren, who were now the lords of the house, refused to pay for Sabel's education. Sabel was forced to gather the money herself, and in this way she found herself working briefly at a bee farm, far from the mighty wizard she saw herself as.    When she finally saved up enough, she enrolled in the Tensor Academy. Her first few months were difficult as she tried to adjust to the environment - she already has trouble with social situations, but even worse is that everyone treated her differently. She was bullied and ignored by her classmates and professors to the point where Sabel was ready to quit, when she demonstrated that she was far more capable than everyone was aware of. She easily aced her introductory classes, outperforming her classmates. Her success was noted by the Tensor League higher-ups, and seeing that she was full of potential, they sponsored her education with a scholarship.    It was at this time that the memories came to her. Mostly in dreams and visions, but Sabel could recollect events that she never participated in, people she never met, places she'd never been. She was also able to recall components of spells she'd never seen before, but they were so vivid and familiar to her that she scribed them into her spellbook entirely from memory. What's more bizzare was that none of her instructors had ever seen this type of magic before. It was magic that could manipulate fate, control time, and alter reality. As Sabel did her own research, she came across rumors of a unique type of magic known as Dunamancy, originating from a Drow civilization called Toriel. Perhaps she could find answers there, regarding her past?   Thanks to her skill, Sabel was able to get her degree in the arcane, becoming a practitioned wizard, yet she wasn't done with her education. She sought a higher degree and returned to school, this time securing an apprenticeship with the Archmage Cadius Thoman, an advisor to the High King of the Veridian Empire himself! Sabel worked dilligently as Thoman's assistant, and the Archmage placed his trust and faith in the young Drow lady. Unbeknownst to Sabel, however, was that the Archmage had his own plans for Sabel. She had the potential to be a very powerful tool to the Tensor League. An agent of their own, and a catalyst for researching Dunamancy. He just needs to indoctrinate her somehow...   However, the Archmage could not set his plans in motion just yet, for in a mere chance encounter, Sabel came across an individual in the guise of a man named Jeffery Adams. It was at this moment that Sabel's life changed forever...

Education

Sabel studied at the Tensor Academy, a university that is part of the Tensor League. Most of its students would go on to work for the Tensor League, either becoming researchers, agents, or ambassadors. Sabel took up an apprenticeship with one of the League's most high ranking members: Archmage Cadius Thoman.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Sabel wants to not just learn more about magic, but also to learn more about herself and the memories she has of a past life.

Vices & Personality flaws

Not very good at the whole social thing. Sabel hates large crowds, and has trouble making friends. Even among her friends (which are very few in number), she is incredibly reserved, and usually lets others do the talking. When put in the spotlight, Sabel is prone to panic and speaks quickly with a lot of "umms" in between words.   She's also deathly afraid of spiders.

Social

Family Ties

Sabel was adopted into the noble family of Sir Jarvis Excalibur. She grew up alongside his children, who outmatured her and became her guardians, only for their children to outmature her once again and become her guardians. Unfortunately, the recent generations tolerate Sabel less and less, and so the family is reluctant to have her share their name, but do so because they do not want to disrespect their ancestor.

Social Aptitude

Sabel's lack of social skills, thought cute at times, tends to make her more a passive person. She rarely initiates conversations, and can barely maintain one to save her life. However, she will willingly speak her mind if it is brought up, and she is actually quite good with children.
