The Immortal Empress

The origins of The Immortal Empress are lost to time, as almost anything from before her ascent to the head of the Dawnfire Empire seems to have gone unrecorded or has been destroyed in the conflict with The Whispering Tyrant.
Though by all accounts a human, The Immortal Empress has non-the-less managed to live for at least 2,000 years. She was the impetus to merge the disparate coalition of kingdoms in The Northern Alliance into the mighty Dawnfire Empire and the supporters of The Dawnfire Empire believe that her extremely long life is a blessing from the gods. She has been charged by the gods to defend the realm of the living from the terrors of undeath and beasts from beyond the material plain and can only rest once mankind is safe from these abominable incursions.
Indeed, this is one of the many factors that pushes the citizenry to despise tieflings above other non-humans. It is said that tieflings are the cursed spawn of a family that has had interactions with devils or demons, so as long as they continue to plague the lands there will never be peace. It is also said that the fall of The Dawnfire Empire will be at the hands of a tiefling.
It is unknown how much The Immortal Empress believes in or helps to propagate such tales, but the policies she has put into place have certainly added credence to them. Under her rule many policies were put into place to subjugate and contain tieflings. In recent years, however, she has pushed for harsher and harsher treatment. Many claim that she has connected the cataclysmic events of Skyfall to teifling magics, though no official statement has been made.
The Immortal Empress tends to keep to herself, only rarely traveling outside the imperial palace in Highwater. In her palace she regularly takes on orphaned girls to raise as daughters and heirs. Her supporters point to this as a charity for these girls as there is no chance of The Immortal Empress dying, so the only reason to raise children is to give them a good life.
