The Dawnfire Empire

Formed 2,000 years ago after an attack by undead under the command of The Whispering Tyrant, The Dawnfire Empire was initially a unification of several city-states into one cooperating domain. The initial impetus for the forming of The Empire was protection against the undead threat to the east, over the years the powers have become more and more totalitarian in the rulership, fearing not only undead, but other supernatural forces more and more. Paranoia, suspicion, and distrust run rampant through all levels of The Dawnfire, as anyone could be not only communing with the demonic, undead, or fiendish; but they could be one themselves.   Though possessing arguably the most powerful military in the known lands, their territory is vast and the level of policing required in their claimed territory means that they are unable to bring it all to bear on any single threat. Their current troubles are only increased by the fact that much of the territory currently under their rule was taken by force and the local populations often forced to give up much of their former freedoms in the name of safety and "the good of the empire." This has forced Dawnfire military personnel to maintain sizeable garrisons throughout their lands, as recruiting from local populations has proven to be problematic.   Though the first to introduce airships that were stable enough for military and commercial use, the technology relied on several groups working together, most notably dwarven and gnomish artificers. After the incident at Tepeel, the Celtland Dwarves have severed ties with Dawnfire and many artificers and engineers have been reluctant to work with Dawnfire directly. This has led to airships ending up in the hands of more groups outside the Dawnfire Empire, while at the same time increasing their rarity overall.

Our Conquest is inevitable, our ascension a matter of time. Let none who are wise deny our destiny.
