Rena - The Spear of Clemency
Mercy to the spear and the pointed suffering.
The Goddess of Mercy
A goddess of Pain and Redemption
Rena was created from the tears of Solaine and became the sister of the goddess. Rena's purpose was simple. She was given a golden jewelled spear made of aether to use on the dying and desperate. She had a solemn duty to visit each person in need. Once there she would make a choice, whether to spare their life and heal their mortal injuries or strike the with the spear ending their suffering and allowing her brother to take them beyond the shimmer. Either decision weighed heavy on Rena and so over the years her mind and thoughts became numb to the cries of hope, pain delight and horror that often accompanied her arrival.
Rena is seen as a savour to most of the people of Verra'Talu but there are those who reject her clinical method and decisions, thinking her wicked and no better than Lenar the Goddess of Monsters. These people who reject Renas ways are becoming a dangerous organized group of individuals who have rejected all forms of healing and evocation magics. This group call themselves the 'Renegades’ and offer many 'alternative healing' methods to the already established clerics and healer of the realm.
Those who support Rena:
"She is a Goddess blessed of Solaines Light, what need does she have of mortally wounding any of the Races on our planet? She is beyond mortals and so has no desire to see us suffer, no she does not kill those who cannot be saved, she merely helps them alleviate their suffering at a time that suits them. Rena has never killed anyone, instead only acted in the best interests of those dying.
Those Against Rena:
Your so-called Goddess proves to us all that she harbours fault filled desires. What more is there to say? She has killed people and creatures before they even had a chance to fight? Do they not even deserve that? A chance to fight? A chance to hold back Bhaal for a few more moments? Rena took that chance away from those creatures and could just as easily take it from us and so that is why we fight against her!

Saviour of her people
It was Rena who threw herself between Bhaal and Solaine during the time of the great meeting. Being the only armed Goddess at the time she knew it was either her or her family that would be slain by the creatures that had turned on and betrayed her great sister Solaine. With a cleft of her spear tip, she pierced the shoulder of Selima the youngest of the Eidolons first. This punctured the child's lung and while Selima lay there dying Rena grabbed Bhaal and Solaine and retreated to Verra'Talu.
Rena grew an army with the Faultless Kings of old and extrated revenge for the Eidolons betrayal. She knew these creatures could no longer be trusted to keep their Elemental Planes safe nor could they be trusted to protect Verra'Talu against the great darkness, but maybe the race Bhaal had created could? This was a glint of hope that gave Rena a plan. Instead of merely killing each Eidolon the Goddess of Mercy instead imprisoned each Eidolon in a token of summoning, tying them to the races of Luna and Verra'talu. When these tokens were used it would summon the spirit and essence of the Eidolon into space for a brief moment, allowing someone to perform miraculous feats.
Due to time and the passage of legend these stones have been lost. The inhabitants of Verra'Talu not aware of their existence or their power.
The Spear of the Gods
Rena has a single spear gifted to her by her sister Solaine. It is this spear she carries around with her and is often seen holding. It is said many snakes and creatures cling to the pommel of the spear and the shaft is made of pure gold. The spear of Rena is a magical item like no other. It is said that any spear in the realm has the potential to become the goddesses favoured weapon at any time but only during times of extreme strife or struggle will the goddess extend her hand and transform her followers' weapon into its magical counterpart. When a mortal wields the spear of Rena they can chose to heal those in need or pass the ultimate judgement for those who cannot be saved. This has led some people to go mad and crazy searching for the spear.
When Rena herself wields the spear she uses it with great effect. on one hand the spear is still a weapon capable of cutting through the toughest hide and armour and striking a killing blow that is free from pain and suffering. It is said getting struck by the blade is like lying in a tranquil ocean where the warmth of eternal light embraces you and your mortal body is carried off beyond the Shimmer. To mere mortals all they see if your body bleed out and your consciousness leave your body. Rena has chosen in this instance to end your suffering, a merciful act.
