Mental characteristics
America was born in the New York Colony into a family of Loyalists who all denounced the actions of the rebels against the Empire. All except her grandmother Patience Smith, widow of revolutionist Walter Ralph Smith, who raised her on stories of The Colony Rebellion and fed her history of the Empire’s corruption. She grew up with revolutionist leanings and left her family at sixteen to live with other revolutionist college and secondary students. Eventually, her intellect got her accepted into the Imperial College of Science and Technology. There, she met Nicholas Fleming and Jothan Sixsmith and became fast friends. She was chosen by Sixsmith to be one of the Machinators, and helped to build Victoriam. During this time, she fell in mutual love with Fleming, but broke it off after he married. After the city was constructed, she abandoned any thoughts of remaining with Nicholas Fleming, and married a merchant named Clarence Herndon in 1864. Three years later, Clarence was cut off from Victoriam in the quarantine, and America was left to raise her two children alone. She lived many more years, seeing her three grandchildren born, before she finally died at the age of 75.

History
They both worked together as Machinators, but Hiram always hated America because she was a woman who was more accomplished than he was.
In life, she was quite affluent. She owned both a townhouse in the Wessend and a home in New England. Additionally, her family owned at least two airships- the Curiosity and Maryflower- both luxuries most cannot dream to afford. Upon her death, half of her wealth was given to a Victoriam University scholarship fund for young girls in the sciences.
