Black Flag
Black Flag, the evil sibling of the White Writer. A flying manta ray creature with blackened skin and sharper features making them a dangerous encounter in mountainous regions and elevated areas.
It saddens me that speeds have decreased throughout the testing phase. Nevertheless it still possesses a top speed capable to outmatch any mount in this realm or the next. Phase two is ready to begin.
Appearance:
Witnessing one up close, viewers would be able to see the rough black rubbery skin covering its entire back, with a dark grey under belly looking softer in comparison. Its wings stretch out 12ft with the ability to block out light from above, giving it the appearance of a black flag flying in the sky. Between its beady eyes, lies a pointed and sharpened beak that can tear through skin with ease. Looking towards its rear end, its short tail leads into a heavy looking ball covered in spikes that it uses to stun its prey. The creature itself is defensive of its territory and easily aggravated if a potential threat gets too close.Actions:
Clobber Tail - Hovering near its enemy, it suddenly whips around revealing its heavy spiked tail. 1d6 melee damage, chance to stun upon a critical roll. Fly - It flaps its wings and shoots up into the air away from danger. Ability to evade attacks upon a successful roll. Peck - The winged beast spirals at alarming speeds and darts towards its target, beak first. 1d8 melee damage, chance to cause bleeding upon a critical roll. Frost Resistance - Immune to cold based magic and attacks.Dark Past:
Although the origins of these winged beasts is not exact, many believe they are born through experimentations during the age of Exploration. This claim is further supported by the discovery of Halvar the Mad's Journal. One of the first Acuran to discover the realm of monsters. Inside the journals, entries mention White Writers going through various phases of experiments to create some new kind of creature. Although the name Black Flag is never written, it is heavily implied. Since the age of Exploration the speed demons of the sky have become more and more common. Often associated with Necromancers and other dark magic users, keeping them for defensive purposes or attempting to use them as mounts. The creatures are most commonly found in the mountains of Cytal but also circle around tall towers and elevated cities such as Norpelda. Very few have seen both White Writers and Black Flags in the same place at the same time, but those who have have reported they are often hostile to each other. With the purer animal attempting to flee its more brutal counterpart. In cases where the pair flee and chase one another, the White Writer is almost always seen escaping due to its superior flying speeds.TG20 Statblock:
