Djinn Hunters

A Brief History

Djinn, in the realm of Violem, were seen as evil and corrupted spirits. With powers of both of Acuran and Air Alum. An almighty and powerful sub species that wished nothing more than annihilation of others and reign supreme.   With fear and devastation spreading across the lands due to the actions of the Djinn, a collection of brave warriors was ordered to fight back for the greater good, Djinn Hunters. Their mission was simple, eradicate Djinn from the realm of magic. At first the task seemed impossible, but as the decades continued to span, the hunters became more refined and slowly grew to a formiddable threat to the Djinn. But the raw powers of wishing, elemental control and cunnings that were matched by some of the world's greatest minds left the hunters at a stand still with the Djinn, at best. That is, until they learnt of a dark magic known as soul binding.   A spell cable of binding the soul of any living being to objects, imprisoning them inside a dark, pocket dimension of isolation. With this new magic at their fingertips, the hunters quickly overwhelemed their enemy, binding the Djinn to trinkets scattered across the world. From the simplest lamp to chalices of pure gold. Within 15 rotations of the stars above, the Djinn were on the verge of total extinction. When they caught the last of the Djinn, the hunters mission was complete and the order was disbanded.

The Rumours

The tales of Djinn and hunters alike are all but stories, set in the past. Lost in translation over many generations, leading to white lies and misinformation leading to false facts. Whilst many of these fables and details are irrelevant, some are more popular than others.   One of the biggest rumours is that the hunters very truly disbanded, instead passing down their weapons and secrets from one generation to another as a precaution. Incase the Djinn returned to this plane of existence, the hunters would rise once more to eradicate them once and for all. Some believe this is set in stone, written by the Acuran of Prophecies themself (Innesson), but there is no evidence to prove this claim.   Another debate around tables of drinking companions is where the hunters kept the Djinn once they had been caged in their objects of eternal suffering. Some say they were simply thrown into the sea and lost to the deepest depths of the oceans. Others believe the hunters were far too clever and instead had vaults and dungeons hidden underground to house all of these objects. One or two are under the impression that in the sands East of Cytal, lies a graveyard of Djinn, objects buried six feet under and marked with tombstones to scare off curious travellers. Who is to say what happened to the Djinn after capture, that is a secret only known the hunters themselves.
