A formiddable opponent in any situation. Not only to be able to understand our ways of life but to harness the power of the elements we simply cannot is a truly remarkable feat. Alum are not to taken lightly and one I always expect to surprise me in defining moments.
Children of the natural elements of the world, with a strong connection to the natural world and the ability to wield magic unlike any other. Alum are the elementals in the realm of magic, with the most common being able to harness the powers of one of the four elements water, fire, earth and air.
Appearance:
The Alum vary from each other in many ways with only is a few traits that are shared amongst the species. Many stand around 6ft and eye colours that match the element they share a connection to i.e. Water Alum have blue eyes, earth have green and lightning have white. In youth they share skin tones similar to a
Sorcerer or
Minauran but the stronger their connection to nature, the hue of skin shifts to blend in with their elemental surroundings. Typically older generations have more stand out skin colour which the Alum are very proud of.
History:
In ancient times, some
Acuran used their magical abilities to connect with the natural world and developed magic that would allow them to make a stronger bond with the elements. Overtime the descendants of these magic wielders became the Alum, a proud race with a fierce respect for previous traditions.
They lived in harmony with the Acuran and later sorcerers but that all changed once the discovery of realm travel became common knowledge. With this new form of magic, they were able to find the birthplace of natural elements such as water and fire. Many believed it they should leave the realm of magic and journey to these realms to be closer to their gods of nature. So Violem saw a massive Elemental migration, seeing fire Alum, earth Alum and more take a pilgrimage into the gateways and leave Violem behind. Those who remained were now outnumbered by sorcerers three to one.
Time passed and the age of exploration turned to the age of darkness, it was here when Alum kept to their own communities and isolated themselves. Wanting to keep out of trouble and stay impartial to the war and bloodshed that came with the times. It was only until the Cytal civil war when they reemerged and joined forces with Sorcerers and Minaurans to bring a new age of peace. Now they find themselves integrated into larger communities once more.
Variants:
Alum are tied to one element at a time, usually from birth they seem to have a natural calling to a particular element. The most common Alum are able to manipulate fire, water, earth and air with magic. But rarer Alum have the ability to wield magic to other elemental forces. These include lightning, ice, the mind, souls and time itself. These less common Alum often hide themselves in society out of fear of judgement similar to the treatment that Minaurans receive.
Throughout time, Alum have evolved even further forging sub species that are sprinkled across the land and born from unusual circumstances. These sub species are also capable of elemental magic but with advantages and major physical differences. These include
Djinn,
Gillan,
Ka-Ko-Rae and
Marubell.
