The Praesidio

The Praesidio, located in the heart of Verdierra province, is the hub of the The Prismatic Brotherhood and the center of organized religion for the Rinti Confederation.
A self-sufficient city, the Praesidio has an outer and an inner ring. In the outer ring, all worshipers of good- and neutral-aligned deities are allowed to visit and pay respects to their gods. Temples to all the Prismatic Deities are manned in the outer ring, as are healing centers, institutions of education, inns, and other more mundane establishments. Lay folk are allowed to live in the outer ring as long as they worship one (or more) of the Prismatic Deities. The inner ring is only accessible to members of the clergy who have sworn allegiance to the Prismatic Deities and their acolytes. In the inner ring are housing areas for visiting clerics and paladins, permanent housing for the Prismatic Knights and clergy who reside in the Praesidio, religious training centers, practice and training areas for paladins, and many meeting areas and diplomatic centers where the Prismatic Brotherhood and the Council of Light meet regularly to deal with the issues of the day.

Government

The Prismatic Executor manages the Praesidio as well as the rest of the Prismatic Brotherhood. Under the Executor, a Sacerdoto is in charge of day-to-day issues in the Praesidio, with five Diáconos under him to manage different functional areas of the Praesidio.

Defences

Strong stone walls surround the Praesidio. A battalion of Prismatic Knights guard the walls and patrol around the grounds twenty-four hours a day.

History

The Praesidio was proposed as part of an inducement for Rintivus VI to sign the Prismatic Compact in 6308; effectively, the Prismatic Brotherhood became a part of the Rinti Confederation and endorsed the government by choosing to place its hub in the middle of Verdierra Province. While the Praesidio is not technically under Rintivi rule (it is a nation-state of its own), it is surrounded by the Confederation. Tensions have flared across the centuries on the question of who pays taxes to whom, but the secular power of the Confederation and the religious power of the Praesidio have tended to balance each other out.
