The Prismatic Brotherhood

The servants of the gods of light have united in an organization known as the Prismatic Brotherhood to more effectively fight off the servants of the dark gods.

History of the Prismatic Brotherhood

In 5957, in the midst of the Shadowed Age (Fourth Age), a Paladin of the Platinum Dragon named Auferria saw that civilization was collapsing. Servants of the shadow had infiltrated most of the world's organizations, and no one was willing to trust each other. She realized that the civilized races would not stand in the next Devastation unless the servants of light banded together to identify and fight off the servants of shadow wherever they lurked, and unify the civilized races to stand together. She called a Council of Light, inviting representatives of each of the good-aligned and neutral deities to meet together. Under Auferria's guidance, they agreed to an alliance that would unite the civilized races, fight back against the shadow, and prepare for the next devastation.   In the next centuries, they developed and maintained a holy militia (the Prismatic Knights) that swore to root out servants of evil across the lands. They served as bodyguards for secular leaders, protected important meetings between them, fought monsters, and uncovered dark plots. Eventually, the Prismatic Knights had an official presence in every realm of the continents of Hashad and Aladore and grew to have strong (though unofficial) political clout.   In the Storming, a majority of the Prismatic Knights were killed in heroic battle against the forces of the dark gods. Even so, the Prismatic Brotherhood maintains a strong political and limited martial presence in the Rinti Confederation, and is respected in every civilized nation.

Beliefs and Politics

The purpose of the Prismatic Brotherhood is to unite the civilized nations against the forces of evil and chaos. As such, they focus on large-scale survival issues and seek to unite nations through diplomatic means. Agents of the Prismatic Brotherhood can be hired to assist negotiations: they are bound to their gods to be neutral third-party agents who desire peace between countries.   Servants of the good- and neutral-aligned gods are also de facto members of the Prismatic Brotherhood, but only a minority call themselves members of the Prismatic Brotherhood first and foremost. (Typically those who do are either diplomats or Prismatic Knights.) Otherwise, the Brotherhood serves as a mutual-benefit arrangement between priests. They are allowed free passage and the ability to stay at each other's temples, are supposed to freely help each other with quests and missions, and should promote the dissemination of knowledge that might aid the battle of the light against the dark.

Leadership of the Prismatic Brotherhood

The Prismatic Brotherhood is led by the Council of Light, which is made of representatives from each of the member deities (typically appointed by the high priest/priestess), a representative from the Prismatic Knights, and the Prismatic Executor, who is appointed by the other members to run the administration of the brotherhood's diplomatic arm and all of the other duties that the Prismatic Brotherhood is tasked with. The Prismatic Executor is actually in charge of running the organization's day-to-day operations. There is a Council of Light meeting every three years, and if the need arises, more frequently. The Executor is charged with determining if a meeting needs to be called in between times.   Influence on the Council of Light is determined by the standing of one's god in the pantheon. First generation deities are given three votes, second generation deities are given two votes, and later generation deities are given one vote. (Typically there's only one representative from each deity, though occasionally a temple will send multiple representatives. Each delegation only gets the number of votes associated with their god, though.)   The representative from the Prismatic Knights is a non-voting member, and the Executor gets to vote in tie-breaking events only. This is to help control the temptation of the Prismatic Executor or the Knights to think that they are "running" the organization, when they are in fact servants of the gods, whose priests are the real ones who "run" the organization. (That said, there are many ways that the Executor and Knights actually work behind the scenes to help votes go their way.)   The member deities of the Council of Light are:   The Elder King (3 votes)
The Queen of Life (3 votes)
The Forge-Master (3 votes)
The Ocean Lord (3 votes)
The Lady of Light (3 votes)
