Huntmaster

Requirements

Huntmasters are not required to be front-line fighters, but are required to have experienced multiple monster-slaying excursions and be a recognized member of the Dragon Slayer's Guild in good standing. Huntmasters must have survived and successfully completed at least 5 noteworthy hunts, and have proven themselves as a capable and popular group leader on a smaller scale, before they are elected to their position.

Appointment

Huntmasters are elected by other guild members, mostly by the members of their local chapter but often with votes and letters of recommendation from other chapters. They are then appointed at the guild headquarters by Guildmaster Zelenaya.   In the event of a sudden death, the Huntmaster's designated second-in-command takes over their duties immediately.

Duties

Huntmasters are tasked with keeping their chapter organized, effective, and reasonably well-behaved. They are the ultimate authority on maintaining member discipline, deciding which hunts the chapter will go on / investigate, and keeping the region safe from monsters. They also represent the chapter, and must deal with the local politics impacting guild function. When members die on an exxcursion, the Huntmaster is the one held responsible.

Benefits

Huntmasters, when they go on hunts, get first pick of any loot. They also enjoy significant local political influence.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

Huntmasters who are corrupt or failing in their duties can be removed by the Guildmaster, usually when prompted by private letters from other members of the chapter. Typically though, Huntmasters are removed violently and bodily from their position by teeth, tentacles, stingers, or any number of other occupational hazards.

History

During the Dragon Wars, Huntmasters were typically metallic dragons themselves. However, most of the surviving ones stepped down after the war.

Cultural Significance

A Huntmaster always has a strong local reputation, for good or ill. Successful and kind ones may be regarded as local heroes and role models, while uncaring (or even simply brusk) ones may be seen as a foreign thug sent by the Dragonslayers to extort money from the populace. They are always polarizing.
