General Summary
Dealing with the Fire
- The lady at the door, some kind of wizard or sorcerer, whose name was Tsarra, was quite concerned with the rapidly spreading magic fire that had been started in the house.
- Alton tried to ask for help. He and Farren explained that Beau was stuck in ethereal plane, Alton needed to save his brother's soul, they had broken in because the place used to belong to a fiend etc.
- Tsarra did not seem to be persuaded, though she remained calm, trying to comprehend the situation.
- Alton commented that he was surprised that Tsarra was not concerned with his pressence.
- Alton was so unconvincing that she did not seem convinced even when everything he said was true.
- Tsarra tried to explain how unstable and dangerous magic presently was.
- Eventually, it came to light that the party's lianyte infused spellcasting focuses were somehow able to stabilize their spells.
- Farren loaned one of his large chunks of red lianyte and Tsarra used it to put out the fire. The crystal cracked during the process. She was not persuaded to call it even, though she did promise to give the crystal back when she found a way to properly stabilize it. As it was, she was afraid that it could explode.
- The captain continuted to try to negotiate.
Sconces
- Alton ran through the house, trying to snuff out all the lights.
- He kept running into locked doors.
- Some of the lights reignited themselves.
- Eventually, he asked Ryltar for help.
- Deciding it was not working, that perhaps he needed a specific pattern or something, he instead tried to light all the sconces. They ran into significantly less locked doors but nothing seemed to happen.
- The wall Beau could not pass through remained sealed.
- Alton found a woodcutters axe and tried to use it to break the wall. A spectral axe shot out of the wall, almost hitting him.
- After the fire was out, Alton brought Beau into the previously burning room and it sputtered one final bit of magic and left her in the material plane. She grabbed some more bread.
Tapestries, Masks, etc.
- In the room with the bed, the lianyte, the ethereal eye, and the pile of gold, Alton set off a ward behind a tapestry depicting an enchanter's workshop. It spawned a bunch of bubbles that exploded violently, but he managed to avoid damage.
- Harold threw gold coins at both Alton and Ryltar in this room.
- Beau and Alton found a box containing a skeleton, possibly elvish, in a chest under the bed in the room. Based on the dust, it had been there for a while, but not quite as long as most of the house had beed empty.
- Behind the tapestry were a pair of boots that Ryltar identified to not require attunement, allow the wearer to walk up walls and on ceilings, and negate disadvantage on stealth. They did not seem to be cursed... Alton put them on. There was something like a maker's mark, depicting some kind of coniferous tree.
- Harold tried to remove his mask by putting on another. It did not work. He stopped going by Don Katz, and started going Viktor Von Hario.
- Beau investigated the other rooms, finding a wizard's journal and two spell scrolls in one, and some lianyte dust under the rug. She noted the two other tapestries; one incomplete depicting a drow lady posing with words "nice paining" scribbled at the bottom, and one depicting a group walking across a rainbow bridge, leaving someone behind. In the library, she found a scrap of paper with the name "Cas Toox" on it.
- Apparently tired of his masks, "Von Hario" brought Ryltar to Tsarra and left him to explain lianyte and Vyaelian style spellcasting details, so she could figure out how to cast remove curse.
The Ring
- Harold put on the rose signet ring he had taken from the bear's mouth.
- Alton found that the wall sconce Harold had broken had some magic glow sputtering behind it.
- Harold used his cloak to teleport himself and Alton to the other side of the wall.
- In the small room was a rug and a lever with a lianyte crystal on the handle.
- Alton tried to infuse the lever with magic. The place where the wall sconce had been outside burst into a small flame. The panel behind the bookshelf slid open.
- Beau put out the fire on the other side of the wall.
- Alton put his axe in place to keep the bookcase door open.
- Harold found a trapdoor in the floor.
- Alton and Harold went down the trapdoor.
- Harold kicked the axe out of position just as Beau noticed the opening. Ryltar and Beau went to find the captain.
- In the basement, harold touched a summoning circle. His ring glowed. A shadowy form began to emerge.
- There was also a large couch, some of those mushrooms that smell like lavender and vanilla, some flowers, and a grate.
