Onwards to the Rest of the Land Below? 4/1/2458 - 6/1/2458 sunset
General Summary
"Clams are super easy to find... They just grow on the bottom of the ship sometimes."
Tome of Lore... Tell us Something Later
- Sen indicated that he would like to have the Tome back in his possession in the near future.
- The party chose to hold on to it, declaring that they did not know what questions to ask it.
- Harold proposed the captain ask about his missing "ruby" (sapphire) but the captain claimed it was no longer important to him as Klaas had left the ship.
Tomfoolery
- Alton and Harold startled Wyldo awake.
- Wyldo responded with a surprised magic missile.
- Since Harold created a magical illusion to scare Wyldo, Wyldo apparently spelled him to be stinky.
- Harold insisted Wyldo dispel this, first attempting to threaten Wyldo and Alton's lives in the tiny lifeboat and then by hugging Wyldo until he smelled like lilacs.
- Back on the ship, Harold noticed that his boots still smelled awful, and recalled rust touching them on his way down. He tossed them aside for now.
Trees
- Alton, Rust, and later Farren attempted to investigate the trees with the crystal lizard eggs.
- Removing an egg from the tree seemed to kill it (although Rust and Panda reattached it just in time to save the lizard).
- Wyldo claimed that the tree could be transplanted, but at this stage in it's development it needed soil with adequate magical nutrients.
- According to Wyldo, lianyte will grow near mature crystal lizards. Unfortunately, red crystal lizards are especially dangerous and the lizards in general cannot be tamed.
- Planting the tree on the ship where it could feed on the elemental engine was discussed, but this could cause havoc with the ship's systems (flight and forge).
Wyldo and the Statues
- After helping investigate the lizard trees, Wyldo noticed the statues, and the room in general and left to question Sen.
- Wyldo wrote in his notebook about his 'rediscovery' of the First Temple, wanting to return after finding the treasure.
- Alton spent a great deal of time with Panda repairing one of the statues. It appeared to be of a human woman with a sword resembling Farren's sword, holding one finger to her lips like Luin's symbol.
- Alton also replaced the lantern with a candle that appeared not to burn down but stayed lit.
- When Alton and Panda left the Mirror for the last time, Alton heard a whispered "thank you".
Clams
- Krumbleton returned to the ship to cook his famous among some (read one) dwarves clam chowder.
- Apparently, clams sometimes grow on the bottom of the ship, even in the air. They seem edible.
By the Way
- Alton questioned Sen about various places on the map.
- Sen claimed that the ice giants were not amicable.
- Sen also claimed that the symbol on the boot Alton found resembled the mark of a merchant from a couple hundred years ago. He could not remember the name of the individual, but said they had come from Caiaryn, but were attempting to trade with giants, and made cloaks at the time.
- Sen revealed that the darts Alton had picked up were enhanced holy water, sleeping poison, and fire.
- Sen claimed that the First Temple used to connect to other Company outposts but he believed that the other entry points had been destroyed.
- When the party was leaving, the party asked if Sen would like to come with them but Sen seemed wary of Rust and said he would remain behind, in case anyone should return.
- Sen did request that, should the party run into Lys, to keep their distance but ask that Lys return Sen's books.
- Apparently Lys likes books and is a cursed lord because he is both cursed and was a lord. Sen appeared to have mixed feelings about Lys. He warned that fighting him would be dangerous.
"What is his curse?"
"Type I."
",,, Type I what?"
"Vampirism," - Alton and Sen regarding Lys
Crafting
- Rust began to work on serpent scale mail on the way down. (5 days, 100 gp and 1/2 the salvage with his artificer powers)
- Alton requested Rust make his hand crossbow magical.
- Rust got Fernando to help in his crafting. Gim seemed to not be doing anything but claimed to be busy.
The Journey Down
- The party chose to investigate the circle of Luin.
- The map in the tower indicated that it should take 3-4 days to reach the area, but they reached it in only 2.
- In the distance, beneath the brief light of sunset, the party observed a gigantic mammoth attacked by very large wolves.
- The temple was mostly an outdoor construction with massive pillars arranged around a huge floating silvery white sphere.
- There were four rooms in the temple, at each of four arches. They seemed to have been stripped of precious metals and stones by scavengers. Three of the rooms were cold. One was inexplicably warm and had some bedding in the middle. There were some clothes (furs) in a compartment under the bed roll.
- Alton landed the lifeboat atop a pillar and snuck around the nearly abandoned temple. He found footprints which changed to two line in the snow and followed them to an icy lake where he lost the trail and narrowly avoided falling into the water.
