Waking Sen

General Summary

Making Friends with Pup

  • The small metal dog demanded to know what the party was doing with Sen, whom he identified as his best friend.
  • Rust noticed that Pup's front paw appeared to be damaged and offered to help but Pup did not trust the party immediately. He also seemed scared of Hugs.
  • At one point, Harold lifted Pup with mage hand.
  • The party convinced Pup that they were there to help.
  • Pup mentioned that he had invited the "scary man" in but he hadn't been able to help Sen. He also said he had also let the "scary man" into the "secret room". Farren asked Pup if the letter Alton had found on Sen smelled like the "scary man" and Pup confirmed this to be true.
  • Pup revealed that Sen had gone to sleep a long long time ago, after the others left and Luthais was taken and the trees started to die.
  • Pup said that Luthais was weird but nice. He didn't talk much.
  • The snake does not bother Pup.
  • The snake reportedly ate everything else.
  • When Harold told Pup that Rust was his brother, Pup asked if Rust was from Eberron too. Pup did not know if Eberron was related to Ebernon/Abernyn but guessed that they might be close to each other.
  • Pup did not remember Eberron well - he couldn't talk when he and Sen arrived and it was long ago.
  • Pup said that Sen was made for war, but decided that he wanted to protect and so he joined the Company.
  • Pup said that he and Sen came to Vyaelian with others and the 'angry man'

Alton Explores the Circle Room

  • While the rest of the party interacted with Pip, Alton went down the hall and up the stairs past the bedroom to another room. Inside he found a broken magic circle with three ballistae aimed at it, three magic staffs, some shelves filled with various spell components, several tables with potions and alchemical supplies left atop them, and a large shallow bowl bolted to the ground.
  • Alton unlocked the door and disabled several traps in the room.

Exploring the Basement

  • The party decided to explore the rest of the building before entering the secret room. Downstairs from the dining room, they found what Pup called the training room. In one fenced off area, Harold found a huge ooze that split in half when hit by lightning but seemed immune to the damage. This ooze was quickly killed by the party when it turned hostile. Pup said that the fenced area used to be the water field, and used to contain fish. Pup also said that it currently smelled like the garbage disposal.
  • In another fenced area, there was sand and a training dummy.
  • Along the walls were mostly blunt weapons, and a few more "vampire hunting kits".
  • Rust and Farren were momentarily concerned by a coffin, which Pup said was were the "scary people sometimes rest". It turned out to be a spring loaded training tool.
  • There was a pillar with a crack in it next to one of the fireplaces.
  • Pup wanted to train, playing fetch with Alton's dagger, Rust's hand axe, and attempting to return Krumbleton's Monke hammer to him.

Alton tries to talk to the Snake

  • Alton attempted to convince the enormous snake outside, proposing that if it let the party pass peacefully, they could bring food for it. He went so far as to give the snake 10 rations. Unfortunately, the snake was singularly focused on immediate food.
  • The snake referred to itself as 'we' and claimed to be all the snakes. It had apparently consumed all other living creatures left on the small island.
  • The snake did not understand the concepts of 'revenge' or 'trust'.
  • The snake once had a master, whom he called 'small'.

Rust Explores upstairs

  • Above the dining room was a room with a large bell. It was not visible from the outside because there were several large, automatic windows that could open when the bell needed to ring, but that were closed currently. They were controlled by large gears.
  • Also in the bell room were several glyphs forming Sen's Security System. One was glowing purple (with a skull pattern), signally Fernando's presence in the dining room. Another was glowing green with a tree pattern, signally the snake's presence outside. A third flashed white when Rust fired damaging spells at the ground. There were small reactions from the glyphs for things like Krumbleton's shield and Harold's armour.

A Map is Found

  • Back in the room that Alton had explored solo, Krumbleton found the materials needed to cast greater restoration on Sen.
  • Rust identified a broken teleportation circle and identified the bowl as a map. When filled with water, it revealed maps of the Land Below, Kariva, Qivar, and Magxidor but not Reveer.
  • The map of Kariva was outdated. Amberlight was not only not in the ocean, it was not even in Verdanna. In fact, Verdanna did not exists, Amberlight was in a city called Alin, inside the Cursed Swamp, Celeb was in ruins and New Port was not on the map. managed to find a way to slowly update the map. The usual process involved the encode thoughts spell as was quicker.

Rest and Krumbleton Wakes Sentinel

  • Rather than trying to find a way into the Secret room on their own, the party decided to rest for the night and try again to wake Sentinel.
  • The attempts was successful, although Sen seemed tired.
  • Sen wondered aloud if he was dead. He asked why "Captain" was there, referring to Rust.
  • Sentinel said he had gone to sleep after the ice giants had stolen Luthais and the others had gone hunting Haryk.
  • Sentinel claimed to be approximately 2757 years old. He also claimed to have been sleeping for about 100-150 years.
  • Sentinel seemed angry at the mention of Andichar. He said that the company had come to this place hunting the fiend but found other things to hunt as well.
  • Sentinel mentioned that it was not always so dark down here - there was starlight before the fall of Myth Elin.
  • There was constant tension between Rust and Sentinel. Sentinel was surprised that Rust was alive.
  • Sentinel confirmed that Rust had been involved in the construction of some airships.
  • Farren tried to convince Sen to join the crew, but Sen claimed to be too old and tired. He did agree to help take down Vickie Bitterheart, help Farren reach the Great Beast, and deal with the snake outside.
  • Sen thanked Krumbleton.
  • The party claimed that Fernando was cursed or something.
  • The hammer on the map was identified as the home of the storm giants.
  • Pup was happy.
  • Sen was concerned to hear that the Company on Kariva had dissolved. They had apparently lost contact centuries prior. Sen wished to hear what had happened above and the party proposed he speak with Finn the Green after the snake was dealt with.

Rewards Granted

  • 3 more "vampire hunting* kits. Additionally, per kit there is 1 light crossbow, 1 hand crossbow, 10 silver bolts, 2 scrolls(moonbeam and protection from good and evil).
  • 100 gold pieces worth of diamond dust (among the spell components in the circle room)
  • More detailed map of the Land Below
