Aureazalta

The city-state of Aureazalta lies on an island in the Cerulean Ocean floating off of the southern coast of the Vairedanian Empire The city itself has a very storied history. It started as a gold mining colony founded by Frank Essens and Goldanna Myrr back during The Age of Inquisition. After a gold dragon attack left the mining colony entirely destroyed and everyone presumed dead the island was marked as too dangerous to travel to or mine. The island became colloquially known as Gold Mountain and mostly forgotten about. That is until about 150 years later when the gold dragon that had been holding the island captive is killed and an entire community of people came flooding out from underground. It turns out for those 150 odd years, the survivors of that gold dragon attack had been building an city within the tunnels of the mine and surviving on magic and ingenuity. However, the captivity for all those years seemed to have corrupted their leaders as the death of the gold dragon and the emancipation of the mountain's citizens came on the heels of a revolution that saw the death of their three leaders.
Nowadays, the city of Aureazalta stands on its own as a trading city with formidable influence in the Cerulean Ocean that has drawn the attention of many powerful, older nations. For the time being however, the city-state seems to have found an ally in their rival Saliměsto to help keep the other powerful nations from descending on the young city-state.
