Carthordian - Eternal Scholar / Father of Language
Carthordian (he/him) is one of the very few deities that were once mortals and ascended to divinity. In his mortal life during The Unwritten Age, Carthordian was a wizard and cleric of Sinavāḍu - The Overseer / All Knowing who devoted his life to the pursuit of knowledge and the spreading of communication between the isolated communties of Vylderaine. Carthordian made a deal with Sinavāḍu that if he could travel the lands of Vylderaine and learn all of the languages of all of its peoples then the deity would bestow a shared language upon the world to bring them all together. It took the entirety of Carthordian's life, and he very nearly did not succeed; but in the end he learned every language in Vylderaine. True to their word, Sinavāḍu granted a common language amongst all of the people of Vylderaine, naming it after the man who made it possible. They were so impressed with Carthordian's efforts that they rewarded them with ascension to the status of a lesser deity. His effots also are what kicked off the start of The Written Age. Since then, Carthordian has claimed residency with their deity in Sinavāḍu's Archives in the Ethereal Plane where they watch over the Material Plane and their followers. They help their devotees in their academic pursuits of knowledge and adventure and in sharing that knowledge with the world. Because of Carthordian's status as one of The Ascendants, there has been much despute over his birthplace and his ancestry as many communities and political powers in Vylderaine want to be able to claim a god as one of their ancestors.
