Altnoréth, also called silver elves or iron elves, and who sometimes call themselves high elves, are a Meranthic (human-elf) species of humanoids found throughout the known universe.
It is common for altnoréth to claim they are the most genetically pure of elfkind (the basal
Ur-Mera lineage), however this is rejected by most geneticists: they are widely considered another Meranthic species alongside the
eladrin,
enari and
drow.
Description
Nearly as tall as humans on average, altnoréth are the tallest of the elven subfamilies, and generally lanky in build. Their hair is usually a silver grey and their skin a coppery orange. Though they're not apt to have facial hair, their long, prominent eyebrows are iconic.
On Waking Materia
Altnoréth were rare in
Waking Materia's First Age and are virtually nonexistent at present. Only one guild of iron elf merchants is known to have operated on Materia during the
Dye Wars, and that is widely considered the greatest explosion of humanoid diversity in the
plane's known history.
